Dear Preschool Families,
Picture makeups and retakes that will happen on Wednesday, November 9th.
- If you child is retaking their pictures, previous pictures must be returned.
- If you child is taking their picture for the first time and you need a picture envelope, please reach out to your classroom teacher.
- Pictures can also be ordered online at mylifetouch.com. (Picture Day ID: EVTSJDJG7)
Next Friday, November 11th, preschoolers do not have school. Is your child wild about animals? Although we are not hosting a live virtual event on this day participate in our first virtual Parent Participation Day which will consist of adventure-filled animal activities. Some of the activities that will be done at home include visiting different animal exhibits all over the country, hands-on math and literacy activities, and fun-filled art projects. Click here for the Virtual Field Trip Website.
Thank you all for your continued partnership and support!
Sincerely,
Barb Golik
Principal
Weather Reminders
As the temperatures become colder each day, we want to remind families to please send students to school dressed appropriately for the weather.
- Our students go outside between 25° F and 90°F and spend 20-25 minutes outdoors on most days.
- If your child is in need of winter clothing (coats, mittens, hats, boots, etc) please contact the Early Learning Center office at 847-827-4165 or firststeps@emsd63.org.
Activity Boards for Absences
In the event that a student is absent, they may choose to engage with activity choice boards (sorted by grade level bands):
Choice boards are not meant to replace in-class learning, rather, they are designed to keep students engaged in learning activities if they are able to do so while absent.
Completion of choice board activities is optional and not required by District 63, which means that work should not be turned into school and students should not expect grades or feedback from teachers.
Spiritwear Fridays
We encourage the students to wear their spiritwear shirts on Fridays celebrating our school!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are quickly approaching. You should have received an email from the school district informing you of the process for registering for either a virtual or in-person conference.
Conferences are being offered virtually or in-person
- Wednesday, November 9 & Thursday, November 17 5 - 8 p.m.
- Friday, November 18 8 - 11 a.m. / 12 - 3 p.m. No school for students.
Sign up for your child's conference(s) at any school using our conference portal:
If you would like to meet in-person, when booking appointments use Manual Booking Mode and enter "in-person" in the "Add Message for Teacher?" comment box. Need help? Review the Parents' Guide for Booking Appointments / Guía de reserva de citas para padres.
Notes from the Nurse
Winter is coming! Winter means cold and flu season, which only complicates the task of figuring out who is sick with Covid-19 and who is sick with another respiratory tract infection. Please use the chart below to help guide you when you are questioning if your child is too sick to come to school and when it is okay to return. We have plenty of at-home COVID-19 test kits and are happy to provide them to anyone who needs it. Please contact me with questions or concerns!

REPORTING ABSENCES
If your child has to miss school due to illness or any other reason, please submit via the Parent Portal.
How to use the Parent Portal to report your child’s absence:
- All absences must be submitted on the morning of the day your child will miss school - NOT the night before. Once you log into the Portal, you’ll choose your child’s name and navigate to a list of online forms. Select and complete the “Absence Form,” and then submit.
- Review detailed, step-by-step instructions.
- You can find these instructions at any time on our website: www.emsd63.org/attendance.
- Questions? Contact the Early Learning Center main office at 847-827-4165
