a note from your director

This is a special "Mr. Malik Edition" of the Newsletter!

While Mr. Lucita is off in Branson, MO, the so-called “Live Entertainment Capital of the World” (a dubious claim, to be sure), I get to check in with our wonderful Jag Band family and keep you updated on the latest and greatest concerning our amazing program!

First off, auditions for next year’s Student Leadership Team were held last Friday. Fifty students went through a rigorous audition and interview process, including ten candidates for our Drum Major positions. Everyone did incredibly well, and we look forward to introducing our newest SLTs next week. Keep an eye out for the announcement in your email and on our social media. I want to personally thank our judges, Mr. Damon Knight, Director of Bands at San Marcos HS, Mr. Michael Hanrahan, Associate Director of Bands at Pflugerville HS, and Mr. Raymond Holland, Color Guard Director at Lehman HS. These gentlemen tackled the tough task of giving unbiased, honest feedback that is integral to our audition process.

Tuesday is our Rookie Camp for all new and incoming members of the Jag Band and Guard. Students will meet from 5 - 7 PM. These are the crucial first steps as we continue our jOURney towards excellence and our growing presence on a national level. Grand Nationals will be here before you know it, and every moment counts as we work to better ourselves individually and as a program.

Speaking of Grand Nationals, our GroupFund crowd sourced fund raising campaign is in full swing! This is the EASIEST way to raise crucial money needed to get our kids to Grand Nationals. Every member of the band and guard has an individual goal of raising $500. Please share your child’s link. It only takes a few seconds. The more exposure the campaign receives, the more money we can raise. Currently, we have just over $9,000 committed. This is a great start, but let’s keep spreading awareness!

Thanks and as always, IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A JAGUAR.
