February 2018

What's Been Happening in the Library?

These last couple of weeks, we've been busy working with teachers and students on a variety of interesting projects. We've worked with...

  • Ms. Maldonado’s 7th grade English classes for lessons on note-taking skills, avoiding plagiarism, and evaluating websites.

  • The English classes of Ms. Walter, Ms. St. Germain, Ms. Donohue, and Ms. Nightingale for a speed-dating with books activity--perfect for February!
  • Ms. Bergstrom's 8th grade students for their independent reading book trailer project. Students used Adobe Spark to create short promotional videos for their books. The best book trailers from each of Ms. Bergstrom's classes (according to her students-and us!) will be featured on the library website later next month.
  • Ms. Kane's 8th grade English class on a project, "New Twists on Timeless Tales: Pairing YA with the Classics." Students selected independent reading books for a project in which they had to pair classic literature with more contemporary retellings. Click HERE to see my book talk slides.
  • Ms. Hashem’s ESOL Level 1 class to develop their research skills to create vibrant and informative posters for Heritage Night on April 20th. The students will also create Google Slideshow presentations to orally present about their home countries to their classmates, including information on their country’s food, culture, sports, and government.

Silent Sustained Reading (SSR) Contest

Congratulations to Mr. Wilson and Ms. Sabino's 7th grade Lancer Time students on their pizza party and cookie party wins! These lucky, readerly classes won the raffle for the SSR parties for the second marking period. All students are encouraged to read on Friday afternoons!
