Updates from Manassas Park Middle School - 2/8/2019

Week 23 - Winter Spirit Week and Boys Winter Sports Begin!

This week featured our winter spirit week, the first game/match of boys basketball and wrestling, as well as 13 Chinese exchange students shadowing MPMS 8th graders for the week! Lots of photos/tweets below!

A personal note from Mr. Sieloff: Soon after accepting the position of Principal last June, my wife and I learned that we were going to be having a second son! Fast forward to this week and his expected due date of February 17 is soon approaching. When he is born, I will be taking a few weeks off to spend with my wife and children as we take care of our newborn. The plan for my absence is that Ms. Tickle will be taking care of duties as Acting Principal of MPMS, with help from some teachers with school administration licences or are in school administration degree programs. There should be no change in service and support to teachers, students, and parents.

I expect to return to work the week of March 25.

Next week - An Important Drill: On Tuesday, February 12, we will be conducting our February active intruder drill, known as our ALICE drill. This month's drill will include a "slow motion barricade" which will include moving furniture under teacher supervision to block entry points to the classroom. This drill is intended to help prepare the school in the event of an armed intruder and ensure student safety. If you or your child have any questions, please reach out to the school and we can provide additional details.

Come check out the MPMS Book Fair! Feb 4-15!

During our Book Fair, February 4-15 during school hours, the Library Learning Commons is transformed into a book store! We'll receive a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level, and all purchases benefit our school!

Our purpose for the Book Fair is to give students a chance to choose books for the library, since students’ long-term reading habits increase when they are allowed to make their own choices about the books they read. The library receives books from the fair as our profit, and we are usually able to get all of the books that the students choose.

You can use the new online eCash feature to give your child money to spend at the Book Fair. You establish a limit, and your credit card is not charged until after your child makes their purchase. See the Book Fair Home Page for more information.

More information is available on the Book Fair Home Page

The schedule for class visits can be found on the calendar on the library's Canvas course
