CPS Teachers Make A Difference

Week Ending February 5, 2016

Confusion about week of March 21-25th. This was listed as a school week as we have our spring break in April. We first offered the NYC trip, which was not met with great enthusiasm from the parents. A few of the families determined that they had the option of planning their own trip and had done so. So, through a series of mishaps, we still want to have a Community Service week with the students. Each day of the week we will meet at a different location (your input would be appreciated) for the day, which would allow our students to accumulate hours. In your contracts, this is a week you were supposed to be teaching. What I am asking is that each of you work one day if part time and 2 days if full time, out of the week to supervise the students at a site. Please let me know which day is best for you.

Thank you Nora for finding this outstanding site to help us better to understand our students. https://www.understood.org/en/tools/through-your-childs-eyes This site allows you to click on the issue the student is having (math computation, organization, reading, etc. ) shows you a video from the perspective of the student and has a simulation challenge for teachers to experience what the student may be going through. I encourage you all to go through.

I will be out of town to conduct a SACS accreditation in Fort Myers on February 11th and 12th. Sandy will be around if there are concerns with the students. Traci will be on hand for administration issues.

Purpose of moodle is to post what you will be covering for the week/unit, when assignments are due, posting of the assignments themselves and to post grades. Please make sure that your information of what you will be covering for the week or unit is posted under the week or topic and not under the activity or assignment. For example:
19 January - 25 January

Math in Music

  • Describe scenarios that require musicians to use mathematics and algebraic reasoning in their work.
  • Explain how to use algebraic concepts and reasoning to calculate beats per minute.
  • Identify a strategy and create a model for problem solving.

You should then list when your due date for assignments are.

The activity link can then be opened and you can develop your assessment. This section should be thorough enough so that if a student is out, he or she would know what is due.

Professional Development - Learning to use Moodle

The Moodle platform can be difficult at first and it will take time for all of us to learn all of its benefits. Moodle provides teachers with a 4 week course. Each week you will learn a bit more about the features and how you can use them on the site. I would appreciate if each of you could please sign up for the course as it will be beneficial.
