22-23 Newell MTSS Behavior / Positive Supports Concerns Form
As we are addressing our MTSS Goal this year of developing our systems of support, it's come to my attention that we have not sent out the link to our MTSS Behavior/Positive Supports referral form.
Please complete this form when you have a Behavior/Positive Supports concern in your classroom. This is for whole class issues (Tier 1) or individual student concerns (Tiers 1, 2, 3).
Mr. Balcom; Mrs. Whitcomb; and Mrs. White; will all see the information shared and meet to discuss/plan to address these concerns. Reminder: one of our first Tier 1+ interventions is Check-In/Check-Out. If you have a student that would benefit, please fill out the form.

Creating the Conditions for Learning: Breakfast
One of the reasons for our Morning Meetings and 8:15 academic start to our day is to give a buffer for students who are running late. Jami, Heather, Cheryl and Nate will work with families who struggle consistently. 8:00am is still our expectation for arrival.
Breakfast is another issue. Being hungry all morning will not lead to success in the classroom. We have 188 students who are eligible for a free breakfast (and lunch). Some of our students arrive late without breakfast. As a school, we will not have hungry students. Every student will happily provide breakfast if needed (up until 10am). Please don't come down hard or blame students for not eating breakfast at home, or being too late to eat in the cafeteria. This is an adult concern that should be addressed with the parents not the student. We welcome them smiling and take care of them while they are hear. We have no idea what they are coming to school from. Some of them may not have eaten since lunch at school the previous day. Be gracious and caring, even when it's frustrating. Grab-and-go breakfasts are available from the cafeteria. If you or your student need assistance getting breakfast, let the office know and we will happily help.
Allowing students to quickly eat in the back of classrooms is preferred as they will miss less instruction. If this is disrupting to others in the room, eating outside the room in the Pod, Hall, or WIMC is an option as is the office. I'd recommend setting a timer for between 5 and 10 minutes to eat once they have there food. 5-10 minutes of eating is an investment in engaged learning the rest of the day.
If you have concerns with breakfast, please reach out to Nate, Jami, or Carrie.
