Sophocles
Is the writer of the play Oedipus king.
Laius
is the great grandson of Cadmus. Oracle of Apollo tells Laius that his grandson will try to kill him.
Jocasta
is the wife of Laius and the mother of Oedipus. Jocasta and Laius agree to give their infant son to a servant.
Oracle of Apollo
Is the one who gives the prediction to Laius that his son will kill him.
Corinth
Is the place where the king and queen live and where Oedipus was raised.
Oedipus
Was given to King Polytus and Queen Merpe for them to raise. Travels to Thebes to kill Sphinx. He is later proclaimed as the savior of Thebes and known as a Hero.
Sphinx
A winged monster with the head of a women and a body of a lion who kills people that fails to answer her riddle. Oedipus was the only one who was able to answer her riddle causing her to kill herself.
Antigone and Ismene
Are two daughters, that parents are Oedipus and Jocasta
Eteocles and Polynices
Are the two sons, that parents are Oedipus and Jocasta.
Creon
Is the brother in law of Creon and was sent to the Oracle of Apollo to ask how to lift this blight.
Queen Merope
Is the queen that adopted Oedipus when it was given to her by the man.
King Polybus
Is the King of Corinth who adopted Oedipus and is the husband of Queen Merope.
