Book Fair Coming Soon!
We are excited to have a "Bookaneer" pirate themed book fair coming at the end of the month. The book fair is a celebration of reading with hundreds of fun, engaging and affordable books for students to discover. The profits of this book fair benefit our library as well as the classrooms with the addition of new books. If you have time and talent to give we would love to have you on our Book Fair Volunteer Team! A book fair volunteer can help out in many ways...
- bring creative flair to signs and decorations
- organize merchandise and displays
- offer a helping hand with setting up and packing up
- help shoppers of all ages to find their perfect book
If you are interested in volunteering please contact our PTA Library Coordinator Leah Williams at leahwilliams2002@gmail.com or 210-844-8465 or sign up online.
DOT DAY
We celebrated International Dot Day on September 15th. The day celebrates and inspires creativity for everyone and is based on author and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds book The Dot. Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade created their own dots on display in the library. Our 2nd graders created dots and brought them to life using iPads and the Quiver app. I hope to do a school wide celebration next year.
NEW FURNITURE
Our first set of new furniture came in! The students love having a comfortable and inviting place to read and share books. We can't wait for the rest of it to come in to complete our transformation.
STORYBOOK PUMPKIN PATCH
Our storybook pumpkin patch continues to grow. We love to see so many creative and colorful pumpkins based on characters from favorite books. It has been a fun and festive addition to our library this fall. Please keep bringing them in. Pumpkin patch spirit sticks will be given to all participants. All pumpkins must go home on Monday October 31st.
F.O.N.E.L (Friends of Northeast Libraries)
A new organization called Friends of Northeast Libraries has been formed to advocate for school libraries. The guest speaker is Tim Tingle, author of Texas Bluebonnet Nominee Crossing Book Chitto. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Individual membership is $5. You can pay this to Mrs. Figueroa or at the first meeting.
