Math- 2D shapes
This week we looked at 2D shapes and described their attributes. Go on a shape hunt around the house looking for circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, and trapezoids.
Next week 1st grade will launch a new unit in writing... Stories in a Series!
Reading: Super Kids
Reading –The memory words are oh, any, day, good, very, and want. Please practice spelling these words correctly, as well as reading these words with ease at home. The sound spelling pattern is the “sneaky e” that makes the vowel sound in the middle of the word say its name (cake, these, bike, bone, flute).
While reading with your children every night, please discuss/point out memory words, spelling patterns, and ask them questions about the book they read.
Whisper phones make silent reading more engaging!
There are plenty of educational programs to use during computer time.
Weekly we practice our memory words, and then we play Show Down with our group.
Our Top Dog for the week was Jayden. Jayden likes to hold the door for others whenever he can. I likes traveling to the zoo with his family, as well as going to the park. One of his favorite songs is from this year's winter musical! So, of course, we had to sing along!! Thanks for sharing your poster with us, Jayden.
Even though we have had a very mild December, we know that winter weather will be on its way shortly. As your child is bringing in boots, snow pants, etc. please make sure that they are labeled with your child's name. Also, we go to PE, Music and Art first thing almost every morning. If your child does not need to wear snow pants to school in the morning, it would be appreciated if they could be brought in a bag instead of your child wearing them. The same will be done at the end of the day. This will allow us to save that time for academic purposes. However, we will give them time to put on snow pants before recess so that they are warm and ready to play in the snow at that time!
Please send box tops to school. Thank you for your support!
A new reading log went home today (inside Friday Folder). If your child forgot to turn their log in, please send it to school on Monday.
