Great Modeling Can Influence Student Behavior.....

The two sisters sent out their "tip of the week" about imitation and it being a sincere form of flattery. Of course, they had a great example about a little girl imitating her papa as the head coach of a basketball team and how adorable it was to see her follow his every move and copy everything he did from advising the players to cheering them on and feeding them assurances of their choices on the court. The little girl did this all with much excitement and expression, proud of being part of the team!

This example can relate to the classroom, we are role models for our students and our excitement for instruction and our lessons builds that same excitement within our students. I am sure you have heard and read in many places that we are "on stage" and are "actresses/actors" within our classrooms. This holds true! I am not asking you to be over the top animated and wild with your introductions and modeling, but your body language, voice inflections and expressions will guide the excitement for learning! How you model will help your students to determine if this concept is worthwhile! Using excitement and being deliberate with your visual, auditory and kinesthetic modeling will help to ignite your students passion for learning!

If you are thinking I have lost my mind, please stop for one second and think about that first introduction of the class "Read Aloud." We all choose books to read to our students that we LOVE ourselves!!!! And when we introduce the books to our class, we are excited to share our love for this book with them, right? Well, what happens? Many start looking for that same book to check out at the library or borrow from someone so they can follow along with you and share that they have the book too!!! They are excited to have that same book in their hands and read it with you! How many times have you taught a unit on a particular topic and students start finding information about that topic and are begging to share it with you and the class? Again, they are excited to learn and share!

It is time to build this excitement and inquiry within our students for all subject areas and content!

Your help is needed - PLEASE make sure to advertise the grade level basket themes to parents and ask for donations. ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE BASKET PURCHASE WILL GO BACK TO THE GRADE LEVEL. This means that the dollar amount used to purchase the basket at the Silent Auction will be given to the teachers to use as you see fit for your students. This may be for a big end of year celebration or a field trip or something else you desire.

Also - we are trying to reach out to community members, organizations for donations for the Silent Auction or items needed for games, such as 2-liter bottles of pop, cakes, cupcakes, etc....... If you know someone who might be able to donate, please reach out to them and ask for their help! If you are able to donate yourself, please consider doing so!
