The Falcon Flyer

Start of School Edition- August 10, 2020

Dear Foothills Families,

In less than two weeks we will be welcoming your students back! The first day of school is Wednesday, August 19th for grades 1-6. The first day of school for our new kindergartners will be Wednesday, August 26th. We have our modified Open House for all At School Learning students on Tuesday, August 18th. More information on this event can be found below. Students who have chosen remote learning will meet their teacher virtually at another time and do not need to attend the Open House.

For those who are doing remote learning, you will be contacted by your child's remote learning teacher before school starts. If you need to check out a chromebook to use at home, please contact Mrs. Slater in the front office who is handling device check out. Parents will be required to fill out and sign a contract and will be given the option to pay $30 for coverage on the device in case of damage or loss. The cost to replace a broken or stolen device is $300 if you chose to opt out of the coverage.

Our teachers return back to school this week and will be working hard to make their classrooms welcoming, safe, and sanitary for your children. I truly appreciate your patience and support of our office staff, our teaching staff, and our custodial staff as we have all been working many hours to prepare for this upcoming school year.

I have shared some reminders of upcoming events as well as new information in this newsletter so thank you for taking the time to read through it. It is a lot of information but I want to err on the side of sharing too much rather than not enough information.

To read our Parent Handbook for this upcoming school year you can click here or visit the Parent Tab of our school webpage: foothills.nebo.edu.

I can't wait to meet all our fantastic Foothills families next week!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Stoddard

Foothills Elementary Principal

Foothills Elementary Open House- Tuesday, August 18th

We are so excited to welcome students back at our Back to School Open House on Tuesday, August 18th from 12:00-5:00pm. This allows students to come and briefly meet the teacher and find their desk so that anxiety will be reduced for the first day of school.

Our hope is that you will be able to get a picture of your student with their teacher at the Open House and that students will feel comfortable finding their classroom on their own on that first day so we have less traffic in our halls on Wednesday, August 19th. We are asking parents to stay outside on the first day of school and cheer their child on as they enter the school building.

At our Open House you will have the chance to purchase a Foothills T-shirt and sign up to help our wonderful PTO with school activities throughout the year.

Please plan to come during your assigned time. The schedule below (by last name) is designed to keep everyone safe AND to practice social distancing. If your scheduled time is not possible, please contact your child's teacher for instructions.

Face Coverings Required. This is just a reminder the Governor has mandated face coverings be worn in all schools by students, staff, and parents for the entire duration of their visit inside the school. Also, if you are sick or someone in your household is sick, please do not come to the school.

GETTING READY FOR SCHOOL?

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

A GOOD WATER BOTTLE WITH EASY ACCESS LID

Please send your child with a water bottle. Make sure it is clearly labeled with your child's name.
Big picture

A FACE MASK OR FACE COVERING OR FACE SHIELD

Please send your child with a face mask. We will have face shields available for every student to use while they are at school but the shield will stay at school and teachers will disinfect them each day. If you aren't able to provide a clean face mask for your child each day, please let us know and we can help you out.
Big picture

APPROPRIATE LUNCH CONTAINERS

We are highly suggesting that parents send home lunches in disposable bags or containers that can be thrown away after the child eats. Children who bring a reusable lunch container will have to be responsible to place it in a designated location, pick it up and take it home to be cleaned each day.

BIRTHDAY TREATS IN 2020

During this school year, birthday treats for students MUST be store bought or commercially prepared and INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED AND SEALED. We will not be able to hand out birthday treats that are open bakery items such as doughnuts or cupcakes.

**Please note that sending birthday treats is completely optional and is the choice of the parent. Teachers and staff make every effort to celebrate children on their birthday and sending treats is not necessary.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS & VISITS

During the Covid-19 pandemic, we must be stewards to protect students and staff from exposure to the virus. We are working closely with the Utah County Health Department and are setting up our school to be able to do effective contract tracing should someone at the school test positive. For this reason, we are asking for your help and support should you visit our school.

ALL VISITORS TO FOOTHILLS MUST CHECK IN AT THE OFFICE AND BE SCREENED PRIOR TO ENTERING THE BUILDING FOR ANY REASON. Screening procedures are listed below.

If a parent needs to contact or see their child, come to the front office and your child will be called up to the office.

We want parents to know that we LOVE having you at our school and don't want anyone to feel unwelcome or nervous that you won't have access to your child. This is not the case. It is because we care so much about your child that we will be reinforcing these protocols.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN GETTING INVOLVED ON OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL?

The SCC consists of school administrators, teachers and parents who come together to provide feedback to school administration on school academic goals, decisions about school funding, safety protocols and concerns that may be impacting the school community.

Please reach out if you are interested. Parent positions on the council require a 2 year commitment. Parent must have a child who is currently enrolled at Foothills Elementary.
