Around 528 B.C. Another new religion (Buddism) arose in India, started by Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha, had sat down after some time under a tree, then after 49 days he had his answer. Then he became known as Buddha, which means "Enlightened One". They have a holy book by the name of Tripitaka (Pali Canon). It is written in ancient Indian language called Pali, which was very close to what Buddha spoke himself. After Buddha's beliefs began, they spreaded internationally from India to Ceylon, Burma, Nepal, Tibet, Central Asia, China, and Japna are just some of the regions the Middle Path was widley accepted. In Buddishm there are four main beliefs the people use almost everyday. 1. Reincarnation- Reincarnation is when one life is born into the next, based upon Karma, Dharma, and the 4 Noble Truths will decide what you will be reborn as. 2. Karma- Karma is, kinda like the butterfly affect, your actions and thinking will either have a good or bad outcome based on what you think, do, or say. Karma is also a Sanskirt term meaning "action" Karma will also affect what you will be reborn as. 3. Dharma- Dharma is the teachings of Buddhism, a philosophy. The Four Noble Truths- The For Noble Truths are basically the ways of Buddishm they tell you the truths of many things. They are the truths of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, the truth of the path that leads to the ends of suffering. Buddist practice many things such as non violence, meditation, equality, and the Eightfold Path. The Eightfold Path consist of controlling your thoughts, resisting evil, freeing your mind from evil, working for the good of others, respecting life, practicing meditation, saying nothing to hurt others, and knowing the truths. The Buddhists code of conduct is based upon the Five Precepts:
- The First Precept: I vow to support all living creatures, and refrain from killing.
- The Second Precept: I vow to respect the property of others, and refrain from stealing.
- The Third Precept: I vow to regard all beings with respect and dignity, and refrain from objectifying others.
- The Fourth Precept: I vow to be truthful, and refrain from lying.
- The Fifth Precept: I vow to maintain a clear mind and refrain from harming myself or others with intoxication.
The final resting place for Buddishts is known as Nirvana (also the name of a very good rock band), they say it's the perfect place for peace and happiness. In Buddihsm Nirvana is the highest state someone can attain. Buddihsm affects the daily lives of its followers by showing them a different way of living life, and teaching them valuable lesson, making everything safe and peaceful for them. Buddishm is a training of art everyday, giving people a simple life to live making it easy for them.
