Important COVID-19 District Communication

Earlier yesterday, Governor Ducey issued Executive Order 2021-06. This Executive Order rescinds various previously issued Executive Orders and removes face covering requirements in certain situations. It does not, however, rescind two existing orders (Executive Order 2020-51 and ADHS Emergency Measure 2020-04) mandating school districts and charter schools to require mask-wearing. Therefore, mask-wearing remains a requirement at all DVUSD campuses and activities by students, staff and visitors.

Governor Ducey’s Executive Order 2020-51 states:

All school districts and charter schools shall develop and implement a policy to require face coverings, such as face masks or face shields, for all staff and students over the age of five until the Arizona Department of Health Services determines that face coverings are no longer necessary or recommended to contain the spread of the virus.

Arizona Department of Health Services Emergency Measure 2020-04 states:

Each school district and charter school shall immediately mandate that masks are worn on school campus, on school buses, during school-associated activities, and while participating in or observing any school-associated athletic activities, by all students, faculty, staff, contractors and visitors.

Therefore, DVUSD will continue implementing the current procedures outlined in our Return to School Operational Safety Plan. In short, students, staff and any visitors must continue to wear a face mask when on DVUSD property. It is important to remember that mask wearing is still identified as the primary mitigation measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Secondly, we want to make sure that you are aware that students 16 years of age and older are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine at state operated vaccination sites. We believe that tomorrow morning, Friday March 26, additional appointment times will become available. Check the Arizona Department of Health Services website for more information. These appointment slots can fill up quickly so we recommend that you look early in the morning if you are interested in this vaccination opportunity.

8th Grade Promotion

We are looking forward to recognizing and celebrating Desert Mountain 8th grade students this spring with a promotion ceremony that will take place on Wednesday, May 19. In order to maintain social distancing and safe mitigation practices, this in-person promotion ceremony will be limited to students and staff only. In an effort to include families and friends in this celebratory event, a live stream viewing will be available during the promotion ceremony. In addition, we will post a recording of the promotion video to the school website after the ceremony. As in previous years, both a program and certificate will be provided to students. We look forward to celebrating all of the achievements and the success of our 8th grade promotion class this spring. We will communicate the details regarding videos, livestream viewing, the distribution of certificates, programs and promotion ceremony times at a later date.

Reporting Positive COVID-19 Test Results

Please use the process below for reporting your student's positive COVID test or a close contact:

If a student tests positive for COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19, or if a student has come into close contact (within 6 feet for 10 or more minutes), the parent should do the following:

  • Keep child at home.
  • If child tests positive or has COVID-19 like symptoms and has had close contact with siblings who attend DVUSD schools, then other siblings should stay home as well.
  • Complete the Student COVID-19 Information Form at https://url.dvusd.org/COVID19ReportingForm.
  • Email the campus nurse and a designated campus administrator informing them of the situation. Specify in the email if the situation involves a positive test, suspected positive test or close contact with someone who has had a positive test or suspected positive test. Include in the email: Name, student ID number, date of test and date that symptoms began.
  • Complete regular student absence procedures for notifying school of student absence.
  • If a parent has any questions, the parent can email COVID19concerns@dvusd.org and/or the campus nurse.
  • A district or campus based representative will follow up with the parent regarding the received report and continue contact tracing data collection.
