HERSHEY NOTES

December 18, 2015

FROM THE DESK OF MRS. FIELDS

I am so blessed to spend my days with your children at Hershey. It is especially joyful this time of year as I experience the excitement of the season through the eyes of your children. Our halls are decked to perfection with gingerbread men reportedly roaming the premises and the sweet smell of gingerbread houses permeating the building. We realize the greatest gifts of all are your children and we thank you for sharing them with us this year. Our staff and I wish you the happiest of holidays and we look forward to an equally amazing start to 2016!

I will be in and out of the building most days throughout winter break. If you should happen to need assistance for anything, don’t hesitate to call and leave a message. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Report cards will be sent home Friday, January 8; however, academic progress for students in grades 1-5 is always accessible via the Parent Portal.

We had a wonderful PTO meeting December 8. Kathy Nimmer, National Teacher of the Year finalist, spoke with us about her life’s journey. She is such an inspiration! We hope to have her work with our teachers and students as frequently as her busy schedule allows throughout the year. Our next PTO meeting will be March 1 at 7:00. We hope to see you there.

BE PREPARED

We have already had our first 2 hour delay and most likely there will be more to come. Are you signed up with Pinwheel to receive text/email alerts for closings and delays? If not, you are encouraged to do so. Directions are attached to this email.

Children will go outside to recess weather permitting. Our cutoff temp is approx 15 degree temp or wind chill. Please be sure your child is prepared with a warm coat, hat, scarf, gloves, etc. It is recommended that you label your child's items with his/her name so misplaced things can be returned properly.

If you need warm clothing for your child, contact our office. We have several nice, gently used coats; hats, scarves, and gloves.

MRS. LEHMAN'S UPDATES AND INFORMATION

radKIDS: It is great pleasure to announce that Hershey has just graduated our very first radKIDS class. Thank you Ms. Williams for being part of this program. It feels wonderful to know that our children are empowered.

Wreath Across America: December 12th was a day to remember our fallen soldiers. Many of our Hershey families came to the Indiana Veteran's Home to place wreaths on the headstones of fallen soldiers. Each headstone had a wreath due to the a considerable donation from Wabash National. Hershey provided 39 wreaths which equate to $585. It really felt good to be part of this day. Clean up day will be JANUARY 16th. Please, come out and help collect the wreaths. More information to come. This event is open to the public. Look for information in the community as well.

Student Council: A BIG thanks to a great group of Student Council students. It was my pleasure to work with them each week. Student Council kicked off the semester by leaving positive notes in the cafeteria where students could read them as they waited in line. They worked hard to collect all the change students brought in for the backpack program. The change totaled a whopping $1900! The legacy left behind from this semester's Student Council is creating the new Panther Postal Service. Student Council collects, delivers and sorts the postcardS ensuring that each student gets their postcard. Much of this work is completed during recess time. Stay tuned in January for a new Student Council group to continue this great work!
