Friday Folders
Due to the two snow days this week and the short week next week, I will send Friday folders home on Tuesday. There was not much to put in the Friday folders this week and the homework isn't due until Dec. 4.
Reading
This week in reading we reviewed plot and setting. We also continued working on our unit of character analysis in their self-selected reading books.
Writing
This week in writing students worked on editing and revising their personal narratives. Some students started writing their final drafts. We also reviewed how to fix run-on sentences. Finally, we reviewed similes and metaphors.
Math
This week we wrapped up our review of Chapter 2 and took the test. Math homework for the week of December 1st: Lesson 3.1. Due to the snow days, we will not be starting Chapter 3 until Monday. Please have your child wait to complete Lesson 3.1 until after Monday the 24th. In the meantime, your child could work on MobyMax and practice math facts!
Science
This week we discussed how seeds travel by looking at milkweed and discussed the issue of milkweed becoming more scarce and how this affects the Monarch Butterfly population. We also diagramed and dissected the parts of a flower and talked about how pollination occurs.
Social Studies
This week we started a new chapter about the Southeast Region of the United States. We also started reading the story "Flat Stanley." If you haven't already done so, please write down the address of a friend or family member who would like to receive Stanley in the mail and send it to school with your child on Monday.
Homework
The homework that's in the Friday Folders is due the week we get back from Thanksgiving, on Thursday, Dec. 4.
