Vaca Fish Barrels are Here
Please Help Donate To Vaca Fish
VACA FISH was formed in 1971 to assist those less fortunate. It continues today in the same fashion with the assistance of a core group of volunteers, a dedicated Board of Directors and support from individuals, the community at large and the City of Vacaville. Volunteers 18 years of age and older are welcome!
VACA FISH provides food for families who:
• Are residents of Vacaville, Allendale and Elmira.
• Meet VACA FISH low income requirements.
• Have not received food from VACA FISH for at least 30 days.
• Can present picture identification when picking up food.
• Do not receive food from another organization on the same day.
VACA FISH furnishes enough food to feed the family for three days, or nine meals.
At Thanksgiving VACA FISH distributes baskets of food on the Saturday preceding this holiday.
Practicing showing gratitude and support local families in need by donating the below canned foods and/or non perishable items.
Vaca High Community Tutoring Program is Back

Hello! This is Marcella Price, the President of Vacaville High School’s Community Tutoring program. I am reaching out on behalf of CTP to let you know that free after-school tutoring is back! Our program’s aim is to provide educational opportunities to all grade 1-6 students through high-quality tutoring services that are purely volunteer based. We have student volunteers from VHS that donate their time to tutor your students, and this year we will begin tutoring on Monday, November 7th, providing our services every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 4:00-5:30 at Vacaville High School. Each session is 30 minutes long, and we offer assistance with assignments and/or concepts by walking students through practice problems.

Student Access Cards
All VUSD students are now auto enrolled in a Solano County Library Card! Student Access Cards give VUSD students the ability to check out up to 3 books at a time, accessing online tutoring/ homework help, audiobooks and eBooks with no overdue fines.
PreK - 6th grade students will be given a take home bookmark with their Student Access Card Checkout code / Online Log In ( VAC+Student ID) and Online Password (Student Last Name).
Library Techs will be the point person for Student Access Cards at sites. They will give class sets of Student Access Bookmarks to teachers during their scheduled weekly library time. Teachers will need to pass the bookmarks out to students to take home.
Novel Knowledge is almost here...
We also do an informal site competition prior to the beginning of the Novel Knowledge quizzes. Parents will be welcome at this Battle of the Books style competition (with buzzers!).
Books are shown at the end of this newsletter.
Quiet Times: The Greatest Holiday Gift...Love and Logic by Dr. Fay
What memories do you treasure from the holidays of your youth? I sit here trying to remember the cool gifts I received and the spectacularly entertaining things we did as a family. I don’t remember much about the stuff—or the entertainment. I do remember the people.
I vividly remember Christmas when I was four. My Grandma Marie was there. By the following year, cancer had taken her away. How thankful I am that we had time together—that sweet time where we were quiet and still and had time to just enjoy being together. Isn’t it sad that it sometimes requires a great illness for us to still ourselves and truly connect with the people we love? In whatever holiday activities you have, connect with the people you love, and not just those under the same roof.
The greatest holiday gift we can give our kids is the gift of limits—mostly limits on ourselves and the other adults in our lives. The limits we set with ourselves mostly involve curbing the natural inclination to do the impossible—make the holidays a perfect experience for everyone. We all know what happens when we attempt to make everyone happy.
The limits we set with the other adults in our lives involve taking good care of ourselves and our kids. Caution! Some of these may cause severe shock:
We can’t wait to see you guys. We’ll need to leave by six so we can spend some quiet time with the kids before bedtime.
We love you and want to spend time with you. We are trying to help the kids be more relaxed and rested, so we’ll need to do this on another day.
We want to spend relaxed time with everyone, so we’ll be ordering pizza.
The true meaning of the holidays lies in the connections we make with our families and with others in our communities throughout the season. These relationships are an invaluable part of all our lives. Cherish your relationships and create truly joyful memories this holiday season.
Change: Pizza is now on Thursday and Impossible Burger/Chili with Chips on Friday
Tutoring - provided by the State of CA!
