History

Evidence shows that people have been living in this region for 10,000 years. It was ruled by different dynasties until the Europeans came and took over. They then claimed independence in 1971. Now, Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. More than one third of the country is flooded each year during the rainy season. This affects the countries development and economic growth. The main languages in Bangladesh are Bengali and English. 98 percent of the countries ethnic groups are Bengali and 2 percent are other. 89 percent of this countries religions is Muslim, 10 percent is Hindu, and 1 percent is other.
