Rogers/Ratzlaff February Newsletter
Grade 3 ~ 2016
Oh the things that we are learning...
With another month under our belts, our class will be taking on the challenge of transforming our winter wonderland into a tropical paradise. Our new classroom theme is “2016 Chili Peppers Under The Sea.”
**PLEASE SEND IN YOUR CHILD's PORTFOLIO BINDER IF YOU HAVEN'T YET**
In Language Arts this month our focus will be on a variety of sea animal poems, stories and informational literature. We will be completing several reports about sea creatures and any books that you may have at home about the ocean or creatures within it can be brought in and shared with the class.
In Mathematics we will continue on with Data Analysis, how to read and interpret tally charts, lists, line plots and bar graphs. After we will be moving onto Measurement.
In Social Studies we are working on a mini-unit on Global Citizenship and how we can make a positive change in the lives of other people in communities around the world. We have the wonderful privilege of spending our portion of the fundraising money from the Festival of Trees to purchase items from the World Vision gift catalogue. (www.worldvision.ca/gifts). It is very heart warming to see how engaged the students are with this topic and how excited they are to make a positive difference in the lives of others! Please stay posted in our next newsletter to find out what the students in our class decided to purchase for others in need! We will then be moving onto how the Environment affects the way people live.
In Science, we are learning about “Building and Testing Materials.”. Our class is busy building a variety of structures that they need to test in order to evaluate the success of their designs. Watch out for these projects when they come home and make sure your child explains what the purpose of the project was and what they learned from completing it. For those projects that do not make it home safely, photo journals will be kept and put in each child’s portfolio.
Lastly, in Health we are mid-way through the Kids in the Know Program, learning how to Identify Safe Adults and safety within our community.
SOUPer day a Success!
