Here is a glimpse into our week!
We had another great week filled with a lot of fun and learning!
Do you like this picture? It is a picture of the bracelets made by fourth graders to raise money for Diabetes Awareness. I love seeing our wise owls wearing the bracelets!
I hope you all are looking forward to the Thanksgiving Break as much as we are! We ended our Friday with some turkey fun! I hope you enjoy the Turkey in Disguise writing prompts that are in your child's take home folder today. We have some very creative turkey disguises!
The November Conferences are next week! I look forward to meeting with you at your scheduled time either on zoom or in person. If you are coming into the building, you will meet me in our classroom (C115). If you are on zoom, please use the following link at our meeting time:

Here's what we learned this week:
Reading Skills: We spent some time sharpening our writing skills this week by writing an opinion piece titled, "My Favorite Fall Activity". We talked about important things in writing like, including a title, indenting at the beginning of a paragraph, adding details, and conventions. I'll share the pieces with you at conferences. Our phonics focus was -er words. The r is very bossy and won't let the e make a sound! We read more stories in our Bedroom Tales reader. Your child can read or listen to these stories in the Amplify Hub on Classlink. We have read up to How the Hedgehog Tricked the Hare. This would be a great way to practice reading on our days off next week.
Reading Knowledge: Our focus this week in our Ancient Indian Civilizations lessons were Diwali and Buddhism. We practiced the vocabulary word, conquer, and applied it to our own lives by sharing things that we have conquered ourselves, either mentally or physically. After Thanksgiving, we will move on to Ancient Chinese Civilizations.
Math: We continued our place value lessons this week and did some challenging place value riddles! Here is one for you: I have 1 hundred, 12 tens, and 6 ones. What number am I? That is an example of the riddles we did this week. We took at place value checkpoint, which I will send home after the break. We started our measurement lessons on Friday with an activity where we were measuring beans from the Jack and the Beanstalk story!
Social Studies: After the Thanksgiving break, we will start our History Unit. In this unit, we will learn how we can use artifacts and documents to tell us about the past.
Science: We wrapped up our Properties of Materials lessons this week with a few experiments. In the first experiment, we tested the strength and absorbency of two different paper towels. We also did a shoe slide experiment to determine which shoe (a flat, flip flop, or sneaker) would be the best shoe to wear on a smooth floor. We talked about the properties of materials and how they are used when making something.
Important Dates:
11/21 - 11/25 - No school for students
