Principal's Report
A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East
A Word From Dr. Clune
I hope that this message finds you safe and well. We are continuing to adjust based on new information from the county and state. Our goal continues to be safely moving the learning forward. In the interest of balancing the 'in person' days, this Wednesday, December 16th is a Group 2 (L-M) Day.
If you are requesting to change your child's 'Instructional Mode' please email mseattendance@pvsd.org as well as me. While we can always accommodate a student moving to all virtual instruction we do need some time when students are moving into a hybrid instructional mode to ensure that we can maintain social distancing guidelines in every classroom. This does take a little time. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and patience. You continued communication with us is greatly appreciated.
Middle school basketball and wrestling were scheduled to begin on Monday. However, at his news conference yesterday, Governor Wolf announced that K - 12 school sports are paused until January 4. All extracurricular activities are also suspended in order to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 Virus.
When winter sports finally do begin, we must all do our part to make sure we can have a successful and safe winter season. Failure to follow safety guidelines can put our students, coaches, school, and community at risk, so it is imperative we are all doing our part to make sure that we have a safe winter sports season. The most significant change from the fall sports season will be the mask mandate. Athletes will now have to wear their masks at all times during a practice and a competition. In order to ensure the safety of all, this policy will be strictly enforced.
Please contact the main office if you have any questions or concerns.

Winter Sports
Winter sports practices for both middle school athletes and high school athletes has been put on hold until January 4. Per the orders of Governor Wolf https://www.governor.pa.gov/covid-19/sports-guidance/, all extracurricular activities are suspended in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. While I know this is disappointing to many, we also need to do our part to help stop the spread of this virus and we will return to sports when the situation is best for everyone.

Nurse's Notes
SCOLIOSIS SCREENING: School law requires that a screening for scoliosis be performed on all children in grade 7. The Perkiomen Valley School District will conduct a scoliosis screening program beginning December 15, 2020. The purpose of the screening program is to detect possible curvature of the spine in children. If the condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spinal deformity may be prevented. All grade 7 students are scheduled to be screened.
The screening test is very simple and can be performed in less than a minute. The school nurse will check your child’s back by observing it while your child is standing and bending forward. You will be contacted if there is any reason to have your child examined by your pediatrician, family physician, or orthopedist.
Your cooperation is essential to help us make the program run smoothly. If you have any objections to having your child participate in the screening program, please inform the school nurse in writing by December 14, 2020
.
HEALTH EXAMS: Please remember that 6th grade students require a physical examination and 7th grade students require a dental examination. If your child has had these examinations, please be sure to send a copy to the nurse's office. Forms are available on the PV website. Your cooperation with this is most appreciated!
Medications: If your child has been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy, seizures or asthma and requires emergency medication, please be sure to bring the medication to school with the appropriate forms completed by the physician. Forms can be found on the PV website.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child. I can be reached at 610-409-8580 or emailed at tespersen@pvsd.org
