Essential Question: What are different kinds of energy?

NWEA/MAP Testing
Don't forget...beginning Monday, May 7th we will begin our end of the year (EOY) NWEA/MAP testing. As always, good attendance is expected, including being to school on time. We will start first thing in the morning. And, yes, in case you're wondering, these hard-working students are getting fed up with all of this testing.
Final Book Project: Timeline
Students are aware that their final book project, the timeline, is due on Monday. Here is a final reminder of the requirements:
- Include at least 10 important events from the book and place them in chronological order.
- Each event should include a title that explains the event and a picture. Pictures may be drawn or printed.
- Your timeline should include dates.
- Include the title of the book and the author on the timeline.
- Neatness counts!
"No excuses; just success stories!"
Next Week's Share Topic
We will be sharing our book project timelines for this week's share topic. Remember, regardless of students' share day, all timelines are due Monday, May 7.
Banana Split Party
As you know, all of the third grade math classes are planning their celebratory banana split party as a means of rewarding those kiddos who've mastered their multiplication math facts. The day of celebration is on Thursday, May 17th. On behalf of the other third grade math teachers, we'd like to thank those of you who've offered to send in items for this special day. Additionally, we will be rewarding those students who've mastered all of their division facts with a pizza party. This will be held on Friday, May 11th. The final opportunity to earn that coveted math facts license plate is next Friday, May 11th.
Economics Study
Mrs. Julie Jolliff from our local Junior Achievement organizations has been visiting to share her expertise of economics with the third graders. Upon completion of this unit, students will understand "how people in the local community make choices about using goods, services and productive resources; how they engage in trade to satisfy their economic wants and needs; how they use a variety of sources to gather and apply information about economic changes in the community; and how they compare costs and benefits in economic decision making." (Indiana Social Studies Academic Standards)
Library News
Students have checked out library books for the final time of the school year. That means ALL BOOKS MUST BE RETURNED NEXT FRIDAY. We do, however, want students to continue to read over the summer. With that is mind, Mrs. Grissom is hosting a Buy One Get One (BOGO) Free Book Fair from May 14-18.
Field Day
LES Field Day is fast approaching on Wednesday, May 16th (not June 16th as I erroneously reported out last week). We are in need of parent volunteers to make this day a success. Please call the school office if you are willing to assist.
Yearbooks
For those of you who still might wish to purchase a 2017-2018 yearbook, there is a limited number available in the office for $15.00. These are while supplies last only.
Spring Pictures
Please remember that if you choose not to order your child's spring pictures, then they must be returned by May 7th. Similarly, if you have decided to order, money is also due on that day.
The Corner Market
The Corner Market will be open Tuesday, May 8th from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. at Union County High School. This food pantry is open to all students in our school corporation K-12 and their immediate household. There are no financial requirements and everyone is welcome. One visit per family. Please bring an ID. Enter through Door 21. Any questions, please contact Jennifer Brannon or Cindy Toschlog at 458-5136.
The pantry will not be open this summer.
Gleaners will host a 2 hour distribution on selected days in June, July, and August.
Each family will be given 1 box of food and produce items.
Dates will be announced soon.
