Dear LMS Families,
Welcome to the February edition of the LMS newsletter! As always, I hope this letter finds everyone happy and healthy. Though we are in the heart of winter, LMS is still a very busy place. As we begin the second semester, I am excited to share the latest updates and important information with you. Please continue to monitor your students' progress through Parent Vue. 1st Semester Student Honors Recognition
We are excited to announce that LMS will be recognizing students for their exceptional performance in the first semester. Students will be recognized in the areas of all A’s, A and B Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, and Perfect S.O.A.R.scores (4’s in every class). This will be for the entire first semester, and not individual quarters. Any of the listed recognitions are a testament to your students' hard work, dedication, and commitment to educational excellence. The ceremony to celebrate these accomplishments will be held during the mornings of:
Tuesday, February 20th (6th Grade)
Thursday, February 22 (7th Grade)
Friday, February 23 (8th Grade)
The ceremonies will begin at approximately 8:00 a.m. and will be located in the LMS gymnasium. Parents / Legal Guardians are welcome to attend.
Parents, we ask that you enter through the 6th grade entrance at the west end of the building and report directly to the gymnasium and find a seat in the bleachers on the west end of the gym. Students will sit on the opposite side of the gymnasium and will be called up to receive their awards, they will then walk directly in front of the parent/guardian section for a quick picture. We will also be taking a group photo at the end of the ceremony.
We will be sending notification to individual parents/guardians to notify if your student will be receiving an award. This notification will be sent out on Friday, February 9th. If you feel that your student deserves an award and you did not receive notification, please call the main office 810-591-0711 by Thursday, February 15th so we can make adjustments prior to the ceremonies.
Even though, not every student will be recognized, we believe it is important for students to congratulate their peers by attending, and hopefully inspire them to strive to earn recognition in future events.
To avoid having to park in non designated parking areas, we will have additional parking for the event on the north side of the building. The gate from the LMS entrance will open around 7:35 a.m., once the busses have dropped off students. Please do not park in this area prior to 7:35 a.m.
Please refrain from parking in the grass areas and shoulders of the roadways. Thank you!

Counselor's Corner
We are excited to welcome Tiffany Roehrig to our counseling department! Tiffany comes to LMS with a wealth of experience and she has already made an impact with many of our LMS students.
Mrs. Gambrel will continue to serve students with last names A-K, while Mrs. Roehrig will take over for students with last names L-Z.
Our updated counseling webpage and sign-up forms are available through the LMS website and also linked below:
Course Selection
It's hard to believe, but it's already time to start planning for the 2024-2025 school year. Keep an eye out for more information about our course selection process in the coming weeks. Students in grades 6 and 7 will complete an exploratory interest form sometime between 2/19 and 3/1. Students in grade 8 will have a visit from their high school counselors later this month to get the high school course selection process started.
More details to come!
Assistant Principals Corner
LMS Families,
As we continue to navigate through the school year, I want to say thank you for all of the support we get from home. It does not go unnoticed the parenting that goes on in this school district, and for that those of us that work here are very grateful!
A few reminders as we move forward. Please talk with and check what your students are wearing before they come to school. We do follow our dress code rules and will be addressing any issues that arise swiftly. With it being the middle of winter, this shouldn't be an issue, but still is here and there. Also, issues with misusing chromebooks have become more and more frequent. Chromebooks are not cheap and student fines are rising because of students mishandling them. We have addressed this at class meetings, but support from home also helps. We appreciate it!
Students continue to do a great job informing adults of potential issues that pop up. We are very thankful for how the majority of our students act daily and respond to adversity when it happens. Please, as parents, do not hesitate to reach out to the school if your child comes home and informs you of a serious situation. This is the best way to prevent negative things from happening. Let's have a great month!
