2023-24 Staffing and Student Learning Profile
Student Learning Profile - Deerfield Elementary uses academic, behavioral and social-emotional data in a collaborative process among teachers to place students in class sections for the following school year. Our goal is to achieve the best possible balance for each class within a grade level. As a reminder Deerfield does not accept requests for specific teachers, nor are students automatically assigned to a teacher the family has had in the past. Additionally, we will not accept requests to be placed with specific classmates. Class placements for the 2023-24 school year will be made public the first week of August.
However, you may provide us with information about your child for our consideration in this process by completing the Learner Profile form below. The information you provide to us is appreciated and serves as supplemental information in our process to achieve the desired balance. Please use the link below if you wish to provide us with additional information.

Thank you Carnival Volunteers & Donors!
The Deerfield Carnival was a huge success both in terms of raising much-needed funds and for the sheer number of staff, students, and family members who came out in support, with more than 400 kids attending! PTO is still calculating the exact amount of proceeds raised, but be sure to check out our Facebook page for an updated number soon!
PTO would especially like to thank the private businesses and donors who supported our public school by supporting the carnival. These include: Jefferson’s; Natural Breeze Remodeling; Tom Harper, Stephens Real Estate; the KU Alumni Association; Tanya Kulaga, Realtor with Hedges Real Estate; Prime Martial Arts; WM Law; Sara Gillum; Kona Ice of Lawrence/Topeka/Manhattan; Torched Goodness; Great Clips; Ashley Myers; Engaged Athletics; Basil Leaf; Growing Smiles; Goldmakers; Toppers; Jen’s Sugar Shack; Rainbow Restoration; Ruff House Paperie; Gamenut; Framewoods; Costa Del Mar Sunglasses; Waxman Candles; Cub Scout Pack 3370; and BSA Troop 55.
PTO would also like to thank the carnival organizers and volunteers, especially Adrian Serene (chair of the carnival committee), Ashley Wright, the PTO officers, and all of the numerous parents and volunteers who helped staff stations or donated items. We could not have put on the carnival without you and your time and effort was greatly appreciated!
Thank you to Ms. Appleman and all of the Deerfield teachers and staff for volunteering, providing your students with amazing silent auction items and more! In addition, thank you to the Deerfield custodial staff for their extra help on a Saturday!
Thank you for all of your support of Deerfield PTO! Not only were we able to give our students a fantastic event but carnival proceeds will help students, teachers and staff in the future!

She was nominated by Reid Heintzelman, Kannaleigh Smith, Skyelynn Berry, Mira Boyle, Atticus Sledd, Jalen Thompson, Liam Beatty and May Ann Donnelly – all from Mrs. Humburg’s kindergarten class. They all think Ms. Bowles deserves a high five because “she’s nice and makes music fun!”

Please send an extra set of clothes with your child on Field Day just in case they get wet or muddy. Let's have a safe and fun day!
From the Business Office: School Fee Balances
The district's current outstanding fee balances on active students is $934,826.84. If we add in outstanding fees for inactive students, the district's total is $1,012,031.89. Deerfield's outstanding balance for active and inactive students is $20,270.19 and $65.00 respectively.
Fees assessed to a student dated prior to May 1, 2023 will be sent to collections on June 15, 2023. March statements included a sticker with this deadline to make families aware of this date.
Districtwide, we have 1,354 students who qualify for free or reduced-priced lunches whose families have not submitted a Consent for Disclosure form. The Consent form is not required, but if it is completed and on file in the business office this allows certain fees to be waived.
