KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
A huge thanks for your support on Wednesday whilst the teachers had the strike day and thanks for finding alternatives for child care on that day - let's hope we see an end to this action soon.
This week we had our Yr 6 students involved in AWE swim-safe programme. A huge thanks to AWE for the sponsorship of this programme - we are very lucky to get this tuition for free! The year 6 students certainly learnt a lot and enjoyed their time.
Unfortunately we had to cancel the Junior trip down to Pioneer Village this week - we tried twice! We have decided to hold on to the money you have paid for this trip and we will organise a special junior syndicate day in Term 4 when the weather is more settled.
A huge thanks to everyone for your support of the school mathathon! I have said it before, but I want to reiterate - we have an amazing community here at Vogeltown! See below for the final figures. Special mention must be made to Mrs Parker and Mrs Anderson in the office, they have organised the event, wrapped presents, counted money and made a great assembly today! Thanks team.
The Board of Trustees is going to an election. You will have received an envelope to fill in and return to the school. Please be aware, if you are voting these need to be in by midday next Friday. If you are posting these envelopes please allow for delivery by next Friday.
Interschool dates:
6 June - vs Welbourn Primary (at VS) Games start 11.45am
27 June - vs Woodleigh School (at VS) Games start 11.45am

HANGI
It is that time of year again and we are going to celebrate Puanga by having our annual hangi. Matariki and Puanga are a set of stars that the early Maori people used to spot to mark the start of the Maori new year. When you could see the stars you knew it was the new year beginning. In Taranaki and Whanganui we use the word Puanga as we cannot fully see the set of stars called Matariki.
Our school hangi will be a way of marking this event and celebrating the significance of Puanga. The story of Puanga (Matariki) can be found here: http://www.puanga.org.nz/pages/puanga.php.
To make the day a huge success, we ask our community for donations and this is then used for everyone to have lunch on the day. If you are able to donate anything, please bring it to the junior or senior office(s).
Donations in include:
40+ Chickens, 60 kg Spuds, 50kg Kumara, 5 kg Parsnips, 20 Pumpkins, 15 kg Carrots, 10 Cabbages, 4 x Beef rolls, 4 x Pork rolls.
Tu Meke whanau.
Ukulele
Kia Ora whanau
At present we have 21 ukuleles at Vogeltown School. There are 35 Senior children that would like to join our ukulele club for 2019. If you have a spare uke or 2 lying around at home, that you haven’t used for a while, maybe you could donate it to our school. It would be very much appreciated.
Regards
Mr G
MATHATHON FUNDRAISER TERM 2
Thanks for all the fundraising for the Mathathon. We have a great community who have helped us out! The overall total was $7,489 - WOW! What a great effort whanau! We had a special assembly today where we gave our spot prizes to some very lucky students and then celebrated the students who raised the most money!
The money raised goes in to the Home and School account to be spent on the students at Vogeltown this year!
Thanks whanau for your efforts - this is a huge amount of money that we really appreciate! We will keep you updated over the year, through the Home and School what this money is being spent on.
VOGELTOWN HOME AND SCHOOL
Good afternoon Vogeltown Whanau,
I am pleased to let you know the home and school team has a new Chair person and secretary as of Monday night.
A very warm welcome to Trina Lallu (Jay and Asher’s mum) who has been part of the committee for the last couple of years as our Chair person and Tania Stockman (Coopers mum) who we welcome back as as an office holder, for a second time, this time as secretary. Our Treasurer’s job is still in the very capable hands of Fay Bailey (AJ and Natalie’s mum), with a great crew of parents to back them up all the way.
Look out for all the upcoming events happening next term..... I heard a rumour Anderson pies and an awesome raffle might be on the cards:)
If you missed the AGM in Monday but still want to come and help out at various events.... contact vshomeandschool@gmail.com or pop to the next meeting on the 25th June at 7pm in the senior staffroom.
