Meet Our New AP- Heather Johnson

Dear Brill Family,

I am so excited to be a part of the Brill Bronco family as your new assistant principal. It is such an honor to be given this wonderful opportunity to be part of such a amazing school and community. To tell you a little about myself, my name is Heather Johnson. I grew up in the Houston area and attended school in Aldine ISD growing up. I graduated with my undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and earned my masters degree from Lamar University. This will be my 18th year in education and my 12th year in Klein ISD. I began my career in Spring ISD where I taught for six years before coming to Klein. In Klein, I have taught 2nd and 4th grades at Krahn Elementary and most recently I taught special education for K-5 at Mahaffey Elementary. Personally I have three boys ages 19, 14 and 12. They keep me very busy with baseball and trips to Aggieland. Outside of school, I spend most of my time at the baseball fields cheering on my son’s team.

I have a true passion for kids and helping others. I want to see everyone, children and adults, succeed and it is my goal to help others know their value and importance. I get a lot of my energy from being around children so I can’t wait to see their sweet faces on Zoom meetings and on campus. Please know that I would love to meet and visit with you so feel free to give me a call or say “Hi” once we are back on campus. Although the year isn’t starting out the way we had hoped, I have no doubt that it’s going to be a wonderful year. Have a wonderful rest of your summer.

Virtual Meet the Teacher

Our virtual Meet the Teacher will be on Monday, August 17th. More details will be forthcoming next week.

Online Learning

Klein Online Learning utilizes a variety of teaching and learning strategies, including:

  • Authentic student work/assignments with timely and relevant feedback

  • Instructional activities within Schoology Platform

  • Portfolio tasks and turning in of assignments

  • Assessments

  • Video lessons

  • Project-based learning/assignments

  • Group/partner projects

  • Direct instruction from a teacher in a group setting through video conferencing

Instruction for elementary students will include synchronous and asynchronous instruction, which is a combination of live teaching and independent, self paced learning.

Synchronous Learning—online learning that happens in real time

  • Students will join teachers for daily live instruction during a specific time frame. All students must be online during set times in order to be marked present. Students have real-time, live interaction with their teachers.

  • Students complete both independent and group work in this virtual class setting, allowing them to collaborate with classmates. Students will still have some lessons and assignments to complete on their own.

Asynchronous Learning—online learning that happens at different times convenient for the learner

  • Instructors provide materials and assignments that can be accessed at any time. Students will be given a specific time frame to complete the work.

  • Students will engage in both independent and collaborative activities in this virtual setting. Instructors will offer opportunities for live, student interaction and feedback, as needed.

  • Teachers will remain available to students as they complete independent/self-paced assignments.
