Red Ribbon Week Activities!
Red Ribbon Week 2017
October 30 - November 3
Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America. The first National Red Ribbon Celebration occurred in 1988. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. St. John Nepomuk Catholic School will celebrate Red Ribbon Week during the week of October 30, and students will show their support for a DRUG FREE AMERICA. Each day will have a specific theme for students to dress up and show that they are proud to be drug free.
Monday 10/30- "Follow Your Dreams, Don't Do Drugs"
Hey sleepy head, just roll out bed and head to school, it’s pajama day! Reminder: modesty is required, as stated in the handbook, when dressing in your pajamas. If not participating in the theme, the normal school uniform is required.
Tuesday 10/31- "NO Drugs in My Past... NO Drugs in My Future!"
Let's travel back in time to live drug free! For our time travel day, dress in your favorite time period gear from either the 1950's - 1990's or 2050! If not participating in the theme, the normal school uniform is required.
Wednesday 11/1- "Be a Saint, Don't Do Drugs!"
Celebrate All Saints Day by dressing as your favorite Saint! If not participating in the theme, Mass Uniform is required.
Thursday 11/2- "Too smart for drugs" & "Team up against drugs!"
Whether we choose to be Mathletes or Athletes, we are DRUG FREE! Dress in your favorite math or sports gear. If not participating in the theme, the normal school uniform is required.
Friday 11/3- "Look at ME, I'm Drug Free!"
Celebrate YOU living a drug free life by wearing Free Dress Day clothes! If not participating in the theme, the normal school uniform is required.
A special thanks to Mrs. Burris and Student Council for planning and organizing this wonderful week for our students!
Auction News
Fall Donation Drive
Our Fall donation drive for our Gala is underway! It will run through our Trivia Night event on October 27.
Pre-K 3 & Pre-K 4 in class lead for competition!
We have received 20 contracts! Keep working towards the goal of 75!
We will host a mini silent auction to auction off seasonal items. (More details to come!) We will accept items for holidays or items that need to be used prior to auction. For example event tickets that might not be applicable in April can be donated NOW!
We sent folders home with each family last Thursday. Inside the folders, you will find a variety of important auction documents.
The most important item is an auction contract for each family. These contracts are used to commit to your donation. It is perfectly fine to complete a contract for an item you may not have acquired just yet. In this instance, please bring the donated item to the school office once you have it. Additional contracts can be collected in the office or sent home with students by request.
Many people have asked for ideas on what to donate, so we included a wish list in your folder. Also included are Sponsorship forms, flyers for our Trivia Night & Shopping Event, Save the Date Magnet and much more!
The class that has the most contracts and sponsorships returned during our Fall Donation Drive will earn an extra recess and an ice cream sundae party! In addition to this, if we meet our school goal of 75 contracts and sponsorships returned during this donation drive, Mrs. Natalie Johnson has agreed to let students turn her into a human ice cream sundae with all the fixings!
We will be raffling off a “First in Line” Spot for attendance to Trivia Night & Eat, Shop and Be Thankful Events!
Watch the newsletter for more updates, and please contact our auction committee at sjnokauction@gmail.com if you have any questions! Thank you for your support of our event and school!
