The Laws of Belief
What Do You Believe?
According to Top Twenty authors, "The basic Law of Beliefs states that whatever we believe is real for us" (p. 49). What do you believe to be true? Do you believe that with goals and conviction, you can accomplish anything you set your mind to? Do you believe in overcoming obstacles along the path to success? Do you believe that with a support system in place you have the ability to overcome roadblocks met in the quest for reaching those goals? Do you believe in challenging yourself to become brighter, faster, stronger in setting the next goal? We know that if we believe we can and will succeed, we are far more likely to succeed in reaching our goals. Does the accomplishment of goals create a win/win relationship? Stephen Covey's Fourth Habit in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People assimilates a new way of thinking in terms of goal setting and beliefs. What does 'Win/Win' mean to you? Ponder this: Covey challenges us in our beliefs that solutions benefit you and the other person or group. He states "Win/Win is a belief in the Third Alternative. It's not your way or my way; it's a better way, a higher way" (252.) As we look forward to the start of another school year, I look forward to working with you in clarifying beliefs, formulating goals and establishing a support system to help find that better, higher way. I believe that, similar to Dr. Seuss in Oh, the Places You Will Go, 'Together we will move mountains!"
