Memorial News
April 2017
From Mr. Collier
Dear Parents/Guardians:
I hope that the month of April brings us some sunshine and warmer weather. Our students need to spend time outside playing and socializing with their peers. Mrs. Hickey is doing an outstanding job monitoring the weather and playground conditions to get our students out for recess.
Last month, Mrs. Sarah Montemarano, our Spanish teacher, announced her retirement. She will be leaving us at the end of the school year. Her dedication and passion for the Spanish language will be missed at Memorial School. Also, Mrs. Eileen Mulroe, our attendance secretary, will be leaving us at the end of the school year. We are in the process of finding their replacements. Once they are hired, I will send a communication introducing them to the Montvale school community. I want to wish Mrs. Montemarano and Mrs. Mulroe a happy and healthy retirement.
Recently, I read an article from Matt Renwick titled, To Raise a Reader. It is a short read that provides some great strategies and suggestions for parents on how to raise a reader and the importance of reading to your child(ren) at home. Please click HERE to read this terrific article.
It is that time of year when the staff and I will meet our new kindergarten parents and introduce them to Memorial School. Our parent orientation will be on Wednesday, April 5th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. This is not a night to bring any children, as we will be discussing some sensitive material.
Prior to the return from our spring break, please reinforce with your child the importance of staying focused and working to the best of their ability. Our expectations have not changed, and we expect our students to perform at their optimal potential.
With spring sports and late nights on the ball field, please make sure that you schedule time every night for your child to read and complete assignments.
Enjoy the spring season!

Family Night
Memorial School’s Family Night will be on Tuesday, April 25th. We will not assign any homework or assessments for the next day. Ms. Gurevich will disseminate the family activity the day before, and we hope that you will share some photos of your family participating in these activities.
