St Elizabeth's News
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 9 | 23 JUNE 2023

Rebecca Clarke | Principal
Dear parents and caregivers,
What a week to start swimming lessons! It has certainly tested the resilience of students, staff and I am sure many parents!
Thank you to those Mrs Manov and the families that came and represented St Elizabeth’s at the St Anthony of Padua Festival and parade. It was lovely to see our school leading the way this year behind the St Anthony of Padua statue.
I had the honour of attending and participating in the Kindergarten Liturgy on Thursday. It was a beautiful liturgy based on the importance of friendship. It was lovely to see a large group of parents attend and then stay to complete an activity with the children. Thank you to Father Peter for joining us and to Mrs Mackie, Mrs Drozdz, Mrs Hardie and Mrs Serraino for organising the liturgy.
Today, an excited group of selected students from Year Four to Six competed in the Interschool Cross Country event at Hillary’s. This is a wonderful event for our students to participate in and I know that they will represent our school with enthusiasm and pride. Well done to all our students as many of them ran their personal best times. Thank you to Mrs Clarkson and Mr Reberio for organising this event for our students.
Mid-Year Reports have been finalised and will be made available on SEQTA Engage to parents on Thursday, June 29. Please see the information below in the Assistant Principal’s section highlighting some important information for all parents in Pre-Primary to Year Six regarding understanding the Mid-Year Reports.
Below you will find the Parent Planner for Semester Two. Please note that some things may change throughout the semester, therefore, please continue to read the newsletter and Seesaw for any updates.
Please keep our Sacrament of Eucharist candidates in your thoughts and prayers as they commitment themselves this weekend to receiving the sacrament next term.
A reminder that Term Two will finish on Friday, June 30 with students returning to school for Term Three on Monday, July 17.
Finally, I would like to wish Miss Baxter all the best as she ventures off on some well-deserved long service leave for the rest of the term.
Wishing you all a fabulous weekend.
God bless
Rebecca Clarke
Principal

Mid-Year Reports
Over the last two weeks Mrs Clarke and I have been busily reading all student Mid-Year Reports in preparation for these to be released to you next Thursday.
It is highly evident that since the beginning of the year, students have been working hard in class to apply the feedback provided by teachers to continue to grow in their learning. All of your children need to be congratulated on their growth this semester. Below is some information to assist you to understand your child’s report.
We hope this information assists you to understand the reporting process at St Elizabeth's CPS. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask your child’s teacher.
Understanding Your Child’s Report
Parents will receive two formal academic reports this year: The report you receive in July is called a 'Mid-year Report.' In December you will receive the 'End of Year Report.'
July – Mid-Year Report
This report provides parents with a ‘snapshot in time’ of how their child is progressing in relation to the end of year Achievement Standard for each learning area for their year level. The grade provided is taking into account the curriculum which has been taught and assessed to that point in time.
December – End of Year Report
This report provides parents with an overview of how their child has progressed, across the entire year, in relation to the end of year Achievement Standard for each learning area for their year level. The grade provided is taking into account the curriculum which has been taught and assessed across the entire year, not just Semester Two.
Understanding the Grading System
Is a ‘C’ grade good?
Yes, you should celebrate C grades as this indicates that your child has progressed to the desired level of understanding for his/her year level.
Is a ‘C’ grade just a pass like it used to be?
No, a C grade today, is the expected Achievement Standard for each year level and each Learning Area.
Does an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade mean my child is working a year or two above their current grade?
No, an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade means that your child is responding to the content taught to a deeper level. They may be thinking more critically about the content, which is a wonderful skill to demonstrate.
How are final grades determined?
Teachers collect numerous samples of work and assessments to determine the final grade. The grade is determined with the use of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority’s (SCSA) Judging Standards. For more information on this go to https://parent.scsa.wa.edu.au
Parents will be able to access their child’s report through our Parent SEQTA portal (SEQTA Engage). Those parents who do not have older siblings and who have not previously accessed SEQTA Engage or who are new to the school this year, will receive a ‘Welcome’ email which will give step by step instructions on how to set up your account and login. This email will be sent in the coming week. Please note that this email may end up in your ‘Junk/spam’ folder.
If you have any issues with setting up your Parent Engage account please contact the office.

Congratulations!
