Voices in the Valley
An Opportunity to Honor Our Veterans
Because with your help, their stories can be heard
We will be honoring veterans during the November 12th episode of Voices in the Valley. Stillwater 8th grader Noah will be interviewing veterans living at Good Samaritan in Stillwater. CNN notes that there is a cultural gap between those who serve in the armed forces and those who don’t. Giving veterans a venue to share their stories helps us close that gap and helps the community appreciate the sacrifices they’ve offered to preserve the freedoms of our country.
Would you be willing to express appreciation for our veterans and show support for community storytelling by sponsoring the November 12th episode of Voices in the Valley? Your support of $50 will help us make the interview possible and will honor veterans with a personalized 20 second message of your choice. The message might go something like this: ABC Company at ABC.com thanks our veterans for their years of service and sacrifice to protect our country… Or this: In honor of our veterans, ABC company at abc.com would like to say thank you to our service men and women who have so faithfully guarded and preserved the United States of America…

Intergenerational in its reach
Every week local area students join hosts Steph and De on the radio to celebrate the
creative spirit, nurture the art of storytelling, and provide a forum for a diversity of voices to be heard. Our goal is to interconnect folks in the St. Croix River Valley to each
other and to a national and international community in order to share the many narratives that can be discovered among our friends, neighbors, and merchants. During the show, guests young and old, local and national, share tips, offer inspiration and
read selections from their work.
Voices in the Valley airs every Saturday morning at 10:00 on KLBB 1220 AM and includes Nature’s Notebook with Rebecca Kolls, Local Student News, St. Croix Valley Art News, public service announcements, public readings and interviews of guests, artists and writers. To KLBB's older demographic (an estimated audience of 55,000 to 160,000+ that reaches into the Twin Cities metro and Western Wisconsin), Voices in the Valley adds youth and their families, friends, colleagues and neighbors. Our audience is passionate about art, creative writing and storytelling - and that almost always translates into a love of nature, a desire for adventure, an appreciation for good food, a recognition of the importance of quality, the desire to build a sense of community and the belief in the importance of staying local. Our website analytics show that 89% of our audience includes people within the ages of 18 and 64 and 65% of our audience is between the ages of 45 and 64. Between KLBB's demographic and ours, we are truly intergenerational.
Because local and independent businesses are fundamental to the sense of community we want to build, Voices in the Valley purposely offers business owners many opportunities to be involved at different price points. We want everyone to have a chance to participate! Our goal is to interconnect folks in the St. Croix River Valley to the many narratives that can be found among our friends, neighbors and merchants. It's meant to be a win-win: creative writing nurtured, storytelling celebrated, and communities ties strengthened while local businesses gain exposure for their services and the resources they offer.
The strength of a community is determined by the richness of its stories
The programming for Voices in the Valley seeks to promote an environment where people of different world views, backgrounds and experiences can share their stories and experiences in a supportive environment while also providing valuable resources to each other. Diverse guests such as Senator Housley and Representative Lohmer, African-American student activist Amir, and Katlyn an author with Down Syndrome illustrate the complexity and beauty of this montage of narrative thought. In addition, Voices in the Valley seeks to support artistic endeavors. LA screenwriter Dina Chapman shares how to write a tv show, New York Times Best Selling author Jacqueline West provides tips on how to develop a writing routine, and Prairie Home Companion veteran Alan Frechtman discusses what it's like to be a part of a creative team.
