Kindergarten News ACES
Week Of October 10th
Highlights From Last Week....
Wow, it is October already!! We are finally starting to settle into a routine. It is amazing to see how much progress we have made within just a few weeks.
In Reader's Workshop, we learned about stamina and started building a graph to track our progress. Our goal will be to read 20 minutes by the end of kindergarten. We are at 7 minutes now! We are really mastering looking at the picture as we read our books. The children are practicing asking themselves "who is in the picture" and "what is going on in the picture. We continued practicing turning and talking.
In Math, we worked on decomposing numbers to 3 and learned that 1+2=3. We also started looking at numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3. We learned how to write the numbers and used the numeral to represent a quantity.
In Phonics, we learned the sight words "see" and "go", please practice these words at home. So far, our words are: I, like, can, go and see. Our letters of the week were u & i.

Notes from Mrs. Chadwick/Miss Bickford
Math: Mid module assessments were completed last week. I'm impressed by how quickly your children are absorbing the material. They are so eager to learn! Practice writing numbers at home with your children. Many students had reversals, but practice makes perfect.
Reading Logs: Keep them coming! They are truly beginning to love reading. They're always picking up books around the room and having a hard time putting them down!
Fire Safety: This week we will be learning all about fire safety. It's going to be so much fun and it's so important. I look forward to helping them know how to remain calm and safe during a fire.
Recess: The weather forecast looks chilly this week. Dress in layers.
Notes from Mrs. Melanson
This week we will be learning about fire safety, and talking about the importance of having and practicing a safe way out of your home in case of a fire. I encourage you to spend some time talking to your child about this, so they know how to get out and where to meet the family when they do get out. This might be a good time to also check your smoke detectors to make sure they are working properly.
REMINDER: I have opened our easel and paint center in the classroom. While they students do where smocks, they still can get paint on their clothes. Play clothes are the best choice for school.
THANK YOU to all who donated supplies to the classroom! I truly appreciate all the help!
Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite
We practiced our bus evacuation this week. All students did it, even if they never ride on the bus. They rocked it!
Next week we will be talking about fire safety. Please talk about where the safe spot is for your family. It could be at your neighbors, a big tree or the corner with the street light. I will be asking them on Tuesday.
It is noticeable that many of you find time to read to your child. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Notes from Mrs. Potter/Mrs. Walsh
Last week Mrs. Jack made homemade apple cider and I brought in two different types of apples to share with your children. They really seemed to enjoy this, I think we will do something special for them every other Friday.
This week we will be talking about fire safety, please talk with your child at home about the dangers of fire and what precautions should be taken if there were to be a fire at home. You should have a plan for a safe meeting spot incase of an emergency at home.
Please keep up the good work reading at home with your child, it's really working, they seem to be enjoying reading books. For each reading log filled up the children are building their own reading buddy to put on our "Out Of this World Readers" wall.
We have two birthdays this month! Happy birthday to Mason and Sophia. If you would like to share a treat to celebrate your childs birthday in class, please feel free, I only ask that you please give me a heads up first so I can be prepared. Thank you!
As always donations of Clorox wipes and tissues are always needed.
