Community Hall Construction Zone

Community Hall and the adjacent walkway soffits are under construction; work takes place after 6:00 pm to avoid having students and others crossing the work area and interacting with the construction crew. Please stay clear of those areas completely after 6:00 pm for safety purposes. On Back-to-School Nights the construction crew will begin at 8:00 pm.

Magnus Health Update

Thank you for your patience during this time of transition to the Magnus Health system. Please be aware of our new procedure for notifying you about your child's visits to the Health Office:

  • We no longer send a pink note home with your child when he or she is seen in the Health Office (new families: we used to send home paper notes)

  • Instead of the pink note, Magnus will send you an email alerting you that there is a notice in your child's Magnus Health account

  • You need to login to your child's account to view a notice

This system will help us ensure that you receive accurate information about your child’s health. It also will help us keep track of children’s health needs over time. If you have a question or need more information, please call the front office and ask to speak to the nurse: 310-825-1801

We Need YOUR Help to Make the Annual Fund a Success

Are you looking for a way to get involved with our school to make a positive difference? Become an Annual Fund volunteer and/or class ambassador. Help make this year’s Annual Fund drive a success! Here are ways we need help:

  • Class ambassadors — Help with our two phone-a-thons this year

  • Annual Fund volunteers— Help at tables during Annual Fund week the mornings of Oct. 12, 14 or 16

Volunteers Needed for Prospective Parent Visits

This year, Prospective Parent visits will begin in the Charles E. Young Research Library and then move to the UCLA Lab School campus for a tour. Volunteers are needed to escort visitors from Young Research Library and around the UCLA Lab School campus. There is a volunteer orientation for all volunteers (new and returning). Community Camping

There is still time to register for our annual Community Camping Weekend extravaganza happening on October 9 - 11, 2015. Join us at Ventura Ranch KOA, 7400 Pine Grove Road, Santa Paula ( The entire UCLA Lab School community is invited to attend. Come for one or two nights, or just drive up for a day of play. Weekly Meditation & Yoga

Our weekly Friday morning guided meditation and yoga continues. Join other parents at the totem pole area for meditation at 8:15 am, followed by yoga from 8:30 - 9:30 am. You can come just for the meditation or stay for the full recharge effect. If you don’t have a yoga mat, there are mats available. In cases of inclement weather, an alternate location will be announced. Come relieve the stress of the week for a relaxing weekend.

Fall Carnival

Sunday, Nov. 15, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. / Blacktop

The Fall Carnival is always a great opportunity for the whole school to come together for a day of fun and games!

Each classroom will host a game booth for the day. Game booths are set up and run by parent volunteers and students (where age appropriate).

Avoid the Ticket Line — Purchase in Advance

You can avoid waiting in line to buy tickets on the day of the Carnival by purchasing your tickets in advance via the FSA website: Click on “FSA Events” in the upper righthand corner. Tickets purchased in advance can be picked up at “will call” the day of the Carnival. Carnival tickets cost $1 each. There is no entry fee. You use your tickets to play games at the 18 game booths.

Games: 1-2 tickets each

Food: 5-7 tickets per item

Drinks: 2-3 tickets each

Coffee and Conversation

There was a great turnout for the first Coffee and Conversation last week. One of the great things about this event is that parents discover they are not alone in experiencing challenges raising little ones. All parents are welcome to attend to learn more and enjoy the coffee.

This will be the first FSA meeting of the year! The FSA meets the first Wednesday of every month. It is requested that at least one room parent from each class attend. The meeting is open to all parents who would like to keep up to date on UCLA Lab School activities.

Play Dates Aren’t Just for Kids

Last Friday, it was Moms' Night Out for a group of UCLA Lab School moms enjoying a Community Party Book event postponed from last year. The group enjoyed food, drinks and child-free conversation under a beautiful evening sky. It was a wonderful way to meet other moms from all levels while also raising money for the school. A huge thank you to party hosts Tess Nelson, Mariana Dietl and Maria Churchill! Stay tuned for notices about how you, too, can participate in and/or host a Community Party Book event!
