Hello! My name is Ben Brobst and I am an Education Program Specialist: Math and STEM
Here are some of what I can offer to you and your schools:
- Provide training to teachers in the area of mathematics and STEM
- Coach teachers to transfer best practices into classroom practices
- Provide resources relating to new techniques and practices in mathematics and the use of technology

Accelerated Learning & FREE IU Created Trainings
This toolkit is an extension of the Roadmap for Instructional Leaders. The entire Accelerated Learning framework, including recordings of all webinars, can be accessed via PDE’s Accelerated Learning website. Link to access more information.

PDE Updates
Interpreting Results on the 20-21 PSSA & Keystone Exams
PDE recognizes that 2021 PSSA and Keystone exam results were adversely impacted by the pandemic and provides recommendations on the interpretation of results. Click on this Link for recommendations.
Questions from the Field
- Act 82 Scores: Will there be Act 82 building level scores published this year? No Act 82 building level scores will be published this year.
- Future Ready PA Index: When will the site be updated reflecting any data that might be reported from last school year? No date provided. FRPI will start rolling out with phases this fall. It will likely be continually updated through the Winter.
- State Assessment Score - Public Release: When will statewide state assessment results be posted on the PDE website or otherwise released? No date provided , but it is expected that results will be available close to the New Year (before or after). They have to wait until all testing is complete (September 30) to start compiling final results.
Act 158 Trainings (Sept. Nov. Dec.)
To assist LEAs with Act 158 implementation, PDE is offering trainings during the months of Sept., Nov., & Dec. Prior to participating in office hours, please review the Act 158 Toolkit and associated resources on the SAS website. Click on this Link for more information on training dates/times. Note: Links have been changed to accommodate more participants.
- Act 158 of 2018 signed into law on October 24, 2018, provides alternatives to Pennsylvania’s statewide requirement of attaining proficiency on the three end-of-course Keystone Exams (Algebra I, Literature, and Biology) for a student to achieve statewide graduation requirements. Effective with the graduating class of 2023,
Act 13
Act 13 of 2020, signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf on March 27, 2020, revises the Act 82 Educator Effectiveness process used to evaluate professional employees working for Pre-K to 12 educational entities across Pennsylvania. The revised rating system will take effect for classroom teachers, non-teaching professionals, and principals at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year.
PDE is committed to assisting educational professionals in smoothly transitioning to the Act 13 Educator Effectiveness rating system. Guidance and resources are available below.

Induction Plan Requirement Question: "Act 13 needs to be added to your induction plan this year. It is the LEA’s decision if you need Board Approval now or if you can wait for Board Approval until your Comprehensive Plan (which includes the Induction Plan) is due."

Reminder: Induction (Chap 49), Professional Education (Act 48), and Gifted Education (Chap 16) Plans require 28-day public review and Board Approval.

Reclassification for EL's
The state send out an email to your PIMs POC. Here is a Link to the document. Highlights include dates for fall testing. I have also forwarded the information to your EL POC. If you have had a change in EL contact, please notify vdietz@riu6.com, so we can make changes to the list-serve.
Also note the changes of dates:
- The EL reclassification window has been extended from Oct. 1st to Oct. 29th
- 2021 Access testing window closes on Sept. 17th. All materials must be shipped back to DRC on/before Sept. 24.
