Happy Sunday Pirate Families!
Tomorrow we are excited to have all of our kindergarten and first grade students (Cohort A & B) back for four days of face to face instruction (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. In two weeks (Oct. 19th) we will welcome all of our 2nd & 3rd graders and two more weeks from then (Nov. 2nd), we will welcome all our 4th & 5th graders to four days of face-to-face instruction. Wednesdays will remaining remote for all students until the week of Nov. 30th.
All students in Cohorts A and B will continue to go to school on their regular A-B day schedule until the date their grade level is scheduled to transition to Plan A.
Beginning the week of November 30th, elementary students participating in face-to-face instruction will attend class Monday through Friday.
If you have questions or concerns please email me, page.highsmith@onslow.k12.nc.us.
All students and staff will continue to wear masks and social distance to the greatest extent possible. Visitors are still limited to essential visitors only. I have included a copy of the updated Strong Schools NC Public Health Toolkit which outlines what schools are required to do under plan A. I have also included a graphic of what Plan A will look like for students throughout Onslow County Schools.Thank you for your support and understanding.
As we prepare for returning back to full capacity, we will be making a slight change to our Car Pick Up procedures. You all are doing a great job with School Dismissal Manager. We will continue to use this program; however, we will modify it slightly in order to be as efficient as possible. Please do not arrive before 2:30pm. At 2:30 pm a staff member will put out a QR code for you to scan as you pull up the the main entrance sign. You will simply need to stop and take a picture of the QR code using your smart phone. This will send a message to your child's teacher stating that you have checked in. We will also continue to utilize the grade specific lanes as we have previously. The only change is that instead of giving your PIN number to a staff member in your lane, we will have one check in point at the Swansboro Elementary sign where you will scan the QR code.
Please take a few minutes to check out our September Students of the Month. We are super proud of these students for demonstrating perseverance. Don't forget that we will continue to hold live teams sessions for all students on Wednesday mornings. It is a requirement for students to attend these live sessions or communicate with the teacher that they will view the recording and complete any assignments that go along with it. Failure to participate and complete remote learning assignments will impact report card grades. On Wednesday afternoon, our enrichment team will host an optional live session weekly at 1 pm. This week is an art & counseling lesson on Spooky the Square Pumpkin. You can find the link in the newsletter to participate.
I am pleased to announce that SBES has adopted Silverhill Elementary in Baldwin County, Alabama to support during their hurricane recovery efforts! We very well know the affects a terrible hurricane can have on people and we would like to help. During Hurricane Florence multiple schools donated to us to help in our relief. We would like to do the same for the families of Silverhill Elementary. The principal of Silverhill has identified 10 families that are in needed of food and personal hygiene items. She has asked if we could help raise funds to support these families. If you would like to donate, you can do so by logging in to School Cash Online account(where you paid your child's school fees) and under view all items you will see a place to donate to Silverhill Elementary. Thank you for being such generous and caring Pirate families!
