Dear Mariano Castro Parents,

This year we are intensifying our focus on helping students to be on time and not to miss any school unless they are very sick. Please expect increased communications with you if your child is tardy for any reason without a doctor's note or is absent frequently. I encourage you to contact me or the office if there is anything we can do to support you in arriving on time to school.

It is important to leave early enough to allow time to:

  • park far away from the school and walk the last few blocks
  • take traffic congestion into account
  • plan to arrive by 7:45 a.m. to beat the congestion in the school area and allow your child time to walk to the line on the blacktop
  • If you have children at other schools, plan your morning routine for dropping off other children at other schools so that all arrive at their own school on time.

Students are tardy if they are not in line or at the classroom by when the bell rings

by 8:00 a.m. Arriving on time helps your child to feel part of the class and helps the teacher and classmates to have fewer interruptions.

Thank you to everyone who has not had any tardies at all this year!

Best Regards,

Theresa Lambert

Principal Mariano Castro Elementary

Walkathon is Coming!

Thank you to Dara Tynefield, Mistral parent, for organizing Castro and Mistral 5th grade students in such a great performance at our Kick-Off Walkathon Assembly! The fifth grade students did some skits to give tips on collecting pledge money to support the school

PTA Meeting -Tonight!

Come join the festivities at the 1st Castro PTA meeting for this school year. It is tonight at 6:30 pm in the MUR. We will have snacks, childcare, and a Spanish interpreter. These 5 important meetings, this year, help Castro Parents to voice their opinions and learn how to give our children more than we had growing up. The meeting is usually less than 1 hour. My child says she likes it when I have PTA meetings to attend. We are planning to have a speaker who will talk for about 15 minutes. See you tonight!

What is WAT?? –WAT stands for Walk-A-Thon. It is the ONE fundraiser for Castro and Mistral Schools each year.

Why is WAT so important?? –This is the ONLY fundraiser that Castro has each year to raise funds for your child’s school and to help support the students and staff throughout the school year. If you will put in an hour or two here and there, or at the event, you will help achieve the goals of our school. That means…NO Sales of magazines, wrapping paper, popcorn, jewelry, etc. THAT SAVES PARENTS/FAMILIES TIME AND ENERGY!!

When is WAT?? The event is Friday, October 6th from 2:00-6:00 pm.

Where is WAT?? It is held on our school campus. Please invite your family and friends.

Remember to pay for your child’s T-shirt. You may turn in your payment to the Castro Office.

Box Tops for Education

Castro is collecting Box Tops for Education to raise money for our school. Please look for them on food packages. Cut them out and keep them in the corner of a kitchen drawer. You can use a baggie or envelope to collect Box Tops and return them to school. The Office and the classrooms have collection boxes. Remember to turn them in soon. Our first deadline is 10/27.

MVEF/Whole foods

Whole Foods Supports MVEF ! Did you know that Whole Foods Market gives customers a five-cent credit for bringing your own shopping bags? Did you know that they also have a program where customers can donate that credit to local nonprofit organizations? In the next few months, MVEF will be a primary beneficiary of the Nickels for Nonprofits Program at the Los Altos Store. Just bring in your own bags when you shop and let them know you would like to donate the five cents back to us! The program kicks off on September 26th and continues through January 15.
