How are the Children of Avalon
Teachers and Staff,
Thank you for another great week to start off the new year. We are all settling into our routines and it is exciting to see some rigorous learning taking place in Avalon classrooms. Cheryl and I have started some initial informal feedback observations as we walk-through the classrooms. I want you to know we are impressed with the frequency to which we observe teachers WICORizing their lessons. Our students appear to be highly engaged as they participate in the learning.process. Overall, we are seeing a decline in teacher talk/student listen. In addition, we are noticing great attention getting strategies that efficiently focus student listening. Please remember that is never appropriate to talk over student conversations. Please work to gain a variety of attention seeking strategies, as this is a critical component to classroom management. Finally, as we walk classrooms we are noting the different ways teachers select students for responses (random, teacher choice, or volunteer). Which method you use greatly impacts student accountability to formulate a thoughtful response, and impacts the effectiveness of informal formative assessment.
Please know this feedback is intended to spark meaningful discourse targeted toward growing as a professional educator, and more specifically assist you in your efforts to ensure all our students grow daily in warm and demanding classroom that make them feel safe and well.
Keep up the great work!
Chris
