Principal's Message

Dear North Gresham Families,

It’s been so exciting welcoming students back to school for our hybrid model of instruction. I love seeing their smiling eyes each day!

Very Important Safety Reminders:

Student safety is of utmost priority. We appreciate your patience and cooperation with student drop-off and pick-up each day. Please:

  • Do not use and/or block the bus lane.

  • Do not turn left out of our parking lot. There is a “no left turn” sign.

  • Follow all directions of staff, signs, and traffic laws.

  • Pull all the way up and drop your student off directly in front of the school once a staff member gives you the signal. Dropping them off before this is a safety issue.

  • Follow the flow of traffic and do not go around vehicles. Some students exit out of the driver’s side, so going around another vehicle is prohibited and a major safety issue.

Student health is another area of utmost importance. Rest assured that families will be immediately notified if there are any health concerns that affect your student(s). To help us in keeping your student, and other students and staff safe, please keep your students home if they are showing any signs of illness and contact the office. Contact tracing is an important part of our health protocols, so please remember to complete the daily student pre-screening email each day regardless of whether your student is sick or not. These are emailed at 6:01 a.m. If you aren’t receiving these emails, please check your spam folder. If you don’t see them there, please contact our office to make sure we have an email address on file for you.

I want to thank all the families, both those with students enrolled in eGBSD and those with students enrolled in hybrid learning, for all that you continue to do to support your students at home.

Counselor's Corner

Dear North Gresham Families,
This month our lessons in the Wellness center are focused on Healthy Relationships. At the end of the month classroom teachers will show 2 videos made by us talking about personal safety. Here is another resource you might enjoy looking at as a family:

Wishing you wellness,
Mrs. Harshfield and Ms. Chu

PBIS with Mrs. Reed

Over the course of the year we will be teaching students about character traits presented in Steven Covey’s book “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids.” Students will learn about these traits during morning announcements and in their classroom. At the end of the month classroom teachers will nominate students that have exemplified the character trait to be recognized at the monthly assembly.

This month we will work on habit #6 - synergize. Synergize is when two or more people work together to create a better solution that neither would have thought of alone. It’s not your way or my way, but a better way. Talk about the equation: 1+1=3 (or more). How is that possible? 1 person + another person = 2 ideas + many more than either of them would have thought of alone. Synergy is taking good ideas and making them better by working together. Discussions can focus on other examples of synergy in nature, history, literature, and personal experiences. For example, synergy happens in nature when a flock of geese head south for the winter. They fly in a V formation, because due to the updraft the entire flock can fly farther than if each bird flew alone.

Activity to try:

Institute a “15-minute program” where everyone drops what they are doing and pitches in to work as a team to clean the kitchen, pull weeds in the garden, wash the dishes, sweep the front porch, etc. Cutting out a small block of time where everyone helps makes the work go quicker.
