The Kersey Chronicles
Rockstars Choosing to Matter in Room 25
Generosity breeds love
"Do all the good you can,
by all the means you can,
in all the ways you can,
in all the places you can,
at all the times you can,
to all the people you can,
as long as ever you can."
-John Wesley
After watching our class wrap gift after gift last week for our adopted families, I was inspired. I love being a part of a school and classroom that gives so freely and openly to help others in our community. It reminded me of Wal-mart's commercial - the one where kids are interviewed while shopping in the toy section. First they are asked what their favorite toys are, and after the kids go on and on about it, they are asked whether they would rather have their favorite gift for themselves or if they would rather give a gift to a child who might not have anything to open on Christmas. Approximately 80% of the kids said they would rather give a gift than receive one!
Thank you for teaching your children about generosity and taking care of others! I love spending this time with them, and am grateful for each and every one.

Next Week's Set List (December 14-18)
Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
LITERACY – We are working on nonfiction reading skills this week. As a class, NWEA showed this is the area we have the greatest room to grow so this will definitely be an emphasis in 3rd quarter.
WRITING – We are finishing our opinion essays this week.
MATH – We are finishing Unit 6, which focuses on analyzing and evaluating data. Students read and interpret data and use it to draw conclusions. The test will be Thursday, December 17th. The study guide should be completed no later than Wednesday.
SPELLING – We have taken a pause from Spelling (not intentionally) because of the depth of learning students are taking in their other projects.
SCIENCE – Students are learning about animal adaptations and transferring their knowledge through an oral presentation about a bat species, in which they will pretend to be a zookeeper opening a brand new bat exhibit. They will present information to their classmates using a model of their bat to aid in the presentation. Students will also write a 5-paragraph informational paper.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We are taking a break from Social Studies and will resume later in the school year.
TIPS - We will read Time for Kids articles to practice nonfiction reading.
