Holy Spirit Newsletter
Term 1 - Tuesday 11th February, 2020 - Week 2
School Motto
Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School is committed to the pursuit of Christian Truth & Excellence.
All members of the school community are encouraged to develop their potential and special qualities in an environment centred on Christ.
From the Principal
Dear Parents
Mid way through week two and we find the children really beginning to settle in well to the classroom activities and routines. Our highly informative parent/teacher evenings held last Monday and Tuesday gave the teaching staff here at Holy Spirit to share their plans and activities for the year ahead. There were also some broader focus and goals presented as part of our strategic planning and implementation of programs and activities here at Holy Spirit.
Our Parents & Friends remain committed to supporting all we do here at school and were instrumental in the improvements to the music room and the art/makerspace area. Our first P&F meeting for 2020 is scheduled for Thursday 20th February at 7.00pm.
Parent representatives for classes have been organised and the schedule of events and responsibilities for the year have been tabled. I urge all parents to support our enthusiastic P&F because in essence it is the whole parent body with leaders and representatives to share the activities and responsibilities. We are all now preparing for our school Kidchella Fair to be held on our school grounds on the 28th March.
Part of our levies and charges is the P&F voluntary levy that provide some important financial assistance to the work completed through the year. I would urge you to support this levy as a way of contributing to the fund raising and resource development for all the students.
School Fees invoices for 2020 are being prepared over the next few weeks and will be sent to all our families mid-term.
We’ve had a terrific start to the new year and I thank you all for the wonderful way you support your children through their attendance and participation in all we offer here at the school.
Have a great week everyone!
Regards,
Steve Versteegen
Principal

CHOIR
Students in Years 4-6 are invited to join our talented Holy Spirit Choir for 2020. This choir will have fun learning good vocal technique and singing in harmony. Students will also build their confidence in performing and will interact with peers from different year groups whilst applying and extending the skills they are learning in music class.
This year our choir will represent our school at ‘One Big Voice’, Australia’s largest children’s choir, with over 6000 students performing together in the Perth RAC Arena in August. Our choir will also play an important role in our inaugural ‘Holy Spirit Music Concert’ in November and will have several other performance opportunities throughout the school year.
Rehearsals are as follows:
Holy Spirit Choir (Year 4-6)

Time: 8.15- 9am

FAIR UPDATE
However here are the main items:
P&F Funds in Action: Have you seen the Art & Music Rooms?
So goodbye peach & green, hello soft greys and funky colours!
Marcia Pekin and Mrs Nicole Sanders have been the drivers of the Makerspace Project and have been busy resourcing materials and equipment and creating spaces to excite and delight the imagination! The new Lego wall is sure to be a favourite! It also acts as a green screen for the budding film buffs!
A big thank you to Nino Marchese, ex-Holy Spirit dad and handyman extraordinaire for his beautiful work painting and restoring the rooms.
Thank you to Mrs Sanders, Mr V, Mr Colace, Mrs Martinovich, Aleisha, Tania, Mrs Pearton who joined Marcia and myself (Sam) at Bunnings on the 27th January in the hot and sticky conditions to sell sausages and drinks and then Mr V, Mr Colace and Marcia repeated the task with Indah, Jo, Anthony, David, Robert, Dion and students Ava and Cassidy at our Icebreaker to sell the rest! $1072 was raised to purchase kid-friendly tools and resources for our Makerspace.
We have lots more plans for these rooms including ceiling repairs and new floors, more storage and pinboards, new music amplifier and a digital technology area that kids can enjoy at lunchtime and during planned lesson times with their teachers.
Enjoy!
