Cooperation with High School is a Huge Success!
It's a delight to have older students offer assistance in the library. Their helping hands assist students in time of need and complete simple time saving tasks for me. During the 2015 Spring Semester, a senior from the alternative school covered books, an important step for processing. Lauren Flores, worked with students this fall semester. She created lesson plans and prepared activities for Kindergarten and second grade students to fulfill requirements for her Child Development 3 Class. Both students were a tremendous asset to offer assistance to both me and the students!

on
A couch unit, stools, tall tables and chairs were purchased to provide students comfortable places to read. Students enjoy checking out new books added to the collection weekly. To challenge the fourth grade students, "Mystery Books" offer an option. Books wrapped in colorful paper builds anticipation when students don't know which book is being checked out until the paper is removed. Hopefully, the students will stumble upon a book that will expand their reading interests, introduce beloved authors or new found series.

Create
change
Three years ago, a library redesign embarked on transforming North's library into a colorful, welcoming environment. To recap a phase was completed one year at a time to ensure strategic research and planning, adequate funding and smooth transitions occurred during the changes. Phase I involved painting bright, kid friendly colors, adding electrical outlets and relocating the teaching station to the Smart board. Thirty browsing bins replaced traditional shelving enabling easier access and visibility to beautiful picture books during Phase II. Finally, Phase III included the removal of tall looming shelving which created an open floor plan and the purchasing of new seating provides a comfortable place for students to enjoy.
