HJHS Weekend Update

January 4, 2016

"Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas." - Calvin Coolidge

As we move into our last 5 instructional days of 2015, let’s remember to wrap up and bring our patience as presents for our students. Our students look like small adults, sometimes act like it, sometimes talk like it, but they are still just kids. Kids who are EXCITED! Excited about the end of the year, excited about Christmas, excited about the change in the direction of the wind - they are just excited! I have to admit, I am a little excited too! This is my favorite time of year! Encourage them to continue learning and working until Friday afternoon! The better your instructional strategies and the more structured your classroom, the easier this week will be. It is not the week to loosen up!

I do not tell you often enough how proud I am to work with you. This school has had more changes than really should have been allowed in one year! Yet you all have come together and made a powerful statement - WE WILL NOT ONLY SURVIVE, OUR STUDENTS WILL THRIVE! We will do everything we can do to help EVERY student! You have demonstrated mercy, high expectations, strength, humor, and kindness - what more could a community ask for from its faculty and staff! Mrs. Bell had a group of students together to discuss how things are going in our school. This is what she sent me: "I asked the students what the best part of the year so far has been for them, and they unanimously said the TEACHERS!" I could not agree more!

Upcoming Events and Notes for this week at HJHS!

Monday, December 14: English benchmark, Choir concert 7:00 @ Lee High School

Tuesday, December 15: Social Studies benchmark, HJHS vs. Whitesburg @ 3:30 (away);

Wednesday, December 16: Faculty Meeting at Mrs. Wieseman's House

Thursday, December 17: HJHS vs. Chapmas @ 3:30 (away)

Friday, December 11: Last Day of the Semester

Boxes for packing your desk will be delivered Monday!

What does this mean for you? I have requested boxes for packing up your current desk. You will need to have your desk packed and ready to go before you leave Friday, December 18. Remember to put your orange REMOVE sign on the desk that has to go. If your desk is personal property, then you will need to have it removed by Friday as well. If you have a personal chair that you want to keep, then place a sign on it that says "Do Not Remove Room ###." If you have more than one desk and do not want both removed leave a note on what should stay. The expectation is you will utilize the new furniture. I hope you like it!

Don't forget you will NOT be able to come/go from the building during Christmas break. The building will be closed to everyone!

If you have any questions, please let me know!
