Costumes on Friday, October 30th for $1.00
As we all look forward to end of October to observe our youngsters dressed up for the Halloween holiday, enjoy the candies and goodies that follow with smiles that prove it may be their favorite time of year, I invite you to help us celebrate at the school level as well.
On Friday, October 30. 2020, students may wear a costume throughout the school day for a dollar. The dollar will go to our school Leader in Me fund to purchase items for our leadership groups.
In an effort to enjoy and celebrate Halloween at Whiteman Elementary appropriately, respectfully, and in accordance with school rules, we ask that students use the following guidelines when selecting a costume:
1. NO masks or face paint. Staff members must be able to identify students. Character masks are not allowed to be worn, as we need to see every child’s face.
2. Costumes that are provocative, revealing, suggestive in nature are not permitted.
3. Costumes should be school appropriate. Fake weapons will not be permitted. NO simulated weapons, knives, axes, guns in accordance with costumes are to be brought to school.
4. Costumes should not hinder your ability to participate in your classes; including gym. Costumes may not disrupt or impede traffic, or present issues of safety in the hallway.
All students are encouraged to bring a set of normal attire in case their costume is questionable or becomes uncomfortable. Students may be asked to change if the costume is deemed inappropriate
Computer Cleaning
Here are some guidelines for how to properly disinfect your Chromebooks, laptops, tablets, iPads and other classroom technology:
- Power off and unplug your device prior to cleaning the device.
- Never spray anything directly on the device. Spray a disinfecting solution on a microfiber cloth first, then wipe the device with the cloth. Do not use paper towels in lieu of a microfiber cloth.
- Do not use any chemical cleaners on the screen of any device because this can damage the screen (including disinfecting wipes). Screens must be cleaned with electronics wipes or screen cleaner.
- Wipe the keyboard and outside of the device with a disinfecting wipe (ex: Clorox wipes) or a microfiber cloth sprayed with a cleaning agent. NEVER USE abrasive cleaners such as Comet or Ajax.
- Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before and after using your device especially when the device is shared with others.
Watch this short YouTube video to find recommendations on cleaning products and more tips on how to clean and disinfect your devices.
Important Reminders
Water Bottles: Please make sure the water bottles are not placed in the backpack with laptop.. The Technology Department encourages everyone to properly shut down laptops each time instead of closing the top. A laptop that is properly shut down will have less issues if it gets wet than one that is still on.

USDA Extension of Free School Meals
Dear Parents:
Last week the USDA announced several summer meal waivers are extended through December 31, 2020, or until the funding is used. For Knob Noster students, this means that the District can continue the summer food service program that has been offered during the COVID-19 closure.
We will be able to utilize this program during regular school hours and feed breakfast and lunch to ALL children, ages 1-18, and all students (virtual & in-person) for FREE. If the funding becomes unavailable prior to the anticipated December 31 deadline, we will communicate with families in as timely a manner as possible.
The free meals began on Tuesday, September 8. Currently, breakfast and lunch will be FREE through December 18 when we release for Christmas Break. Please note the program does not extend to purchasing a milk to accompany a sack lunch from home. Milk is 45 cents and will need to be paid out of your student’s meal account. This is for the purchase of an “extra” milk. It does not apply to milk that comes with a school meal – that is free with the meal.
If your student is an in-person learner, there is nothing further you need to do. Virtual learners and families of all children, ages 1-18, in our community who want to take advantage of school breakfast/lunch should complete this form daily (by 9 a.m. the day you want lunch) - https://forms.gle/M6SHh6WB2Wj6QxKJ6
Pick up will be at your child’s school cafeteria during lunch serving times and will include lunch, plus breakfast for the next day. Three lunch choices will be available each day. Hot lunch, cold sandwich, or salad. The lunch choices are based on the school menus available here -http://knobnoster.ss13.sharpschool.com/p_a_r_e_n_t_s/menus_and_nutrition Parents who pick up meals should bring a form of ID (school ID or car rider pick-up decal) for their child as proof of residence in our district (per DESE guidelines).
We are excited to be able to provide FREE meals to ALL our Panthers!
Very respectfully,
Jerrod Wheeler, Ed.D.
Superintendent
