Avilla Elementary Family Newsletter
August 2022
Avilla Families,
Welcome back to a new school year! I wanted to share the staff picture above so you can see all of the people that make our school a great place to be. Every individual working with our students provides a major impact on the day to day operations of school along with the education of the kids that we serve. I'm proud to be a part of this dedicated team!
As the school year progresses be sure to communicate with your child's teacher frequently if you have any wonderings or questions. You can expect frequent updates on each teacher's Seesaw page along with grade updates on Powerschool. If you've been at East Noble or Avilla in the past, we no longer have badge report cards for Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Instead, all grade information is now housed in Powerschool.

Avilla Apparel Store is Open!
We are partnering with Betty Lou Designs in Kendallville to provide families different options to purchase Avilla Elementary gear. This is our second year of this partnership and we are very happy with their quality, service, and pricing. Here is the link to our online store: https://avilla-school.itemorder.com/shop/sale/
You've Been Caught Tickets
Hopefully you've heard of our Three Be Statements at Avilla Elementary. Every day we say them together and always try to practice them: Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Responsible. Students that are caught following the Three Be Statements are given a red ticket to put their name on. The staff member shares with the student exactly why they are choosing to give them a ticket. Students put red tickets in a classroom area and eventually turn them in to the raffle barrel that we use to select students from for Panther Pride celebrations once per month.
Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO) Notes From PTO President Angie Gump
Greetings Avilla Families!
Your Avilla Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) would like to extend a warm welcome to our new and returning students to Avilla Elementary! The Avilla PTO is a non-profit volunteer organization comprised of Avilla parents, guardians, grandparents and Avilla staff members. We work together to fundraise and host a variety of school events such as Roller-Skating Parties, Donuts with Grownups, Claus’ Closet, Teacher Appreciation, and Ice cream treats on Field Day, to name a few.
I hope you’ll consider getting involved! The more parents who contribute their time and talents, the stronger and more connected our school community grows. We recognize parents are very busy. Whether it’s volunteering for a one-time commitment, or a signature event, attending meetings, or staying connected via email, we would love to have you involved in the Avilla PTO.
Our next PTO meeting is Monday, September 12, at 3:30 in the Avilla school library.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me.
Thank you for your continued support!
Angie Gump
Notes from Nurse Jenny
Reminder If your child is sick, please keep them home. Remember ENSC policy is to send any student home who has a temperature of 100 degrees or more; or if they have vomiting or diarrhea. Students must be fever free without fever-reducing medication and/or no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.

Car Line Reminders
We would like to thank you for helping to make our car line arrival and dismissal process nice for everyone!
To avoid waiting for long periods of time in our car line, we recommend that you show up close to our school start and dismissal times. When too many people show up too early, it creates a line that can disrupt Avilla's street traffic. Please be sure to display your car number when you are picking up a student in the afternoon. All car rider students enter and exit at door 2.
School start times:
Mondays: school begins at 8:45 am, door 2 opens for breakfast at 8:30 and opens at 8:35 for everyone else.
Tuesday - Friday: school begins at 8:00 am, door 2 opens for breakfast at 7:45 and opens at 7:50 for everyone else.
School dismissal: 2:45 pm daily
*Please don't enter our car line before 2:35 pm to avoid creating an unnecessarily long car line. Our preschool car line is in place before Kindergarten - 5th grade parent car line.
Attendance
Creating lifelong attendance habits is important for children. With that being said, there are times when students will miss school. If your child has an appointment or is seen by a doctor for illness, please provide a note from the provider. If you child is going to be absent for whatever reason, please inform our office.
In order for parents to be informed of their child's attendance the following protocol will occur:
3rd Absence-A letter will be sent home to inform families about the importance of attending school on a regular basis.
4th Absence-A personal phone call from the school.
5th Absence-A second letter will be sent home.
7th Absence-An Attendance Agreement will be entered into with the student and parents.
8th Absence-A second personal phone call from the school. Along with the phone call, a third letter (certified) will be sent home explaining future actions that could take place.
9th Absence-A school social worker will visit the home of the student.
10th Absence-A 24 legal notice will be issued.
