2nd Semester Schedules

Now that families have made learning selection choices for 2nd semester, counselors will be spending the next several weeks working on 2nd semester schedules for all students. While we will attempt to limit the number of changes to your student's teachers, please understand that some changes could be necessary due to our master schedule changing.

If your student would like to request a change to one of their course for 2nd semester, please have them contact their academic counselor.

KC BizFest Competition is officially open

We are pleased to announce the 17th Anniversary of KC BizFest 2021. This year our event will be held virtually on February 10th -13th, 2021.

KC BizFest is a scholarship competition for Latinx Junior and Senior students in the Kansas City Metro Area. The competition is sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

It is a four-day competition that is business-focused. Students participate in a virtual conference-style event for three days where they learn how to write a business plan. On the fourth day of the competition, students present their business plans to panels of judges, and the top students receive scholarship money.

Online applications are due December 11th.

Congratulations to Evey Goering and Giselle Garza for being recognized in the top 6 works of the City of Merriam art show at the Tim Murphy art gallery. Their works were chosen from 462 entries submitted by 16 schools .

Congratulations to NJROTC for finishing 1st in all Three Divisions (Male, Female & Co-ed) at the Athletic Challenge a few weeks ago.

2021 Mail-In Bond Election in the SMSD

Our Shawnee Mission community is looking toward the future. Click here to learn more about the SMSD mail-in bond election coming in Jan. 2021.

Residents will soon be asked to consider a bond proposal, designed to provide lasting facilities improvements and to strengthen student learning. View a video overview about the proposed bond here.

The Board of Education, unanimously approved a resolution to place a $264.2 million bond proposal on a mail ballot this January.

The goal is that the Shawnee Mission School District can continue to be ranked among the finest school districts in the nation, employing exceptional educators who work in state-of-the-art facilities, where learners achieve their full potential.

Food Service - Free Meals

Meals are available for pick up on Fridays 12/11 and 12/18. There will not be any pick up available on 12/25 or 1/1. Pick up time is from 6:30-7:45 a.m. at all schools. Food service provides these meals for free to students regardless if they are in remote, hybrid, or in-person learning. This includes breakfast and lunch meals. Meals provided cover the days the student is not in-person learning (including weekend meals). Please contact the Food Service office with questions at (913) 993-9710 or


SMN Athletics & Activities

Athletic Update

Swimming: Our boys swam great tonight! We had some really great races, awesome “first” swims, and we had three State Qualifying times. Relay of Luke Cramer, Caleb Sostarich, Cameron Lee and Junior Lopez qualified in the 200 Medley

Cameron Lee, Caleb Sostarich, Luke Cramer and Junior Lopez qualified in the 400 Free Relay; and Junior Lopez qualified in the 100 Freestyle.

Basketball: Our boys basketball team played Blue Valley West in a great competitive game that we lost 62-59. SMN vs BVW game/stat leaders: Johnny Macan – 18 & Jeremiah Stanton-Manning – 12; Rebounds: Logan Oberle- 12 & Jeremiah Stanton-Manning – 5; Assists: Jeremiah Stanton-Manning – 4. The Tribe are in action this week on Tuesday at SMNW (all levels) and JV/V compete at Bishop Miege on Friday night

Wrestling: SMN boys varsity team hosted a quad with Junction City, Hays High School and KC- Turner High School. It was a great event and our wrestling team gained some valuable experience. Our next quad is Tuesday at Olathe West.
