Horicon Elementary Newsletter
November 2020 Edition
Principal Perspective
Dear Horicon Elementary Families,
It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of the first quarter! This year, more than ever, it is important to remember what and who we are thankful for. We are so incredibly thankful for our wonderful staff, students, and families. We appreciate the flexibility, teamwork, and patience we have seen over the last two months. By working together we are able to help everyone be as successful as possible.
It was great that so many of you were able to participate in parent-teacher conferences. Thank you for adjusting to the new format and being flexible! We truly appreciate the positive partnerships between school and home. We know these are challenging times and you and/or your child may have been faced with quarantine due to close contact or testing positive for COVID-19. We will continue to work together to support each other the best we can.
Students and staff have taken time to connect and learn from each other. Building positive relationships and finding each other’s gifts continues to be a focus at Horicon Elementary. Everyone has something positive to contribute and we appreciate these contributions to our school community. I encourage you to ask your child about their positive choices.
Please continue to encourage your child to read at home. Research shows that the more a child reads the better reader the child becomes. Ask your child what they are reading at school and what they plan to read next.
Thank you for your continued support of the students and staff of Horicon Elementary. I would like to wish you all a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving and a wonderful start to the holiday season!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Lisa Sawyer

Trunk or Treat Fun!
A Note from the PTO
Hello Horicon Families,
As the chilly weather moves in, we hope everyone is staying warm and safe. We hope you enjoyed our 1st annual Trunk or Treat event and we are already planning for next year. Thank you once again to those who donated either money, candy, or time to make this event successful!
Unfortunately due to the pandemic, we are not able to host our typical fall/winter events such as the Scholastic Book fair or Family night. We are super bummed but want everyone to stay safe. We will be holding our annual Butterbraid Fundraiser, along with offering dips for sale. This is our only sales fundraiser for the year. We have tight budget this year due to having to cancel 2 brat fries earlier in the year. We are excited to announce the Butterbraid Fundraiser can be done completely online (although pick up of items will still be at school). Families are now able to sell through the Butterbraid website and have buyers pay online. We will still be sending home paper sales forms on November 12th. Those can still be used if you choose. All sales will close December 1st and pick up of items is tentatively scheduled for December 17th. Families will still have to deliver sold items to buyers (no direct shipping to buyers’ homes). We will have the link for online sales posted on our Facebook page once the sale starts.
Upcoming Events:
November 5th - Monthly PTO meeting 6 pm Horicon Commons
November 12th - Butterbraid and Dip sale begins

Morning Drop Off
We need your help! Please do not drop your child off at school or allow them to walk to arrive prior to 7:40am. We start our supervision at 7:40 and your child is unattended if they are waiting outside before that. We want to ensure all of our students are safe and attended to at all times. Please help us out with this and have them arrive any time after 7:40am. Thank you!
