"Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great."
It has been an exciting journey of learning this year, whether you are a first year implementing campus of ELM in science and social studies, or if you are in year two or three. Research indicates it take 3-5 years for an implementation cycle to complete. We are getting there! We wanted to share some resources and professional learning opportunities as teachers meet with you on their summative and begin to plan for their summer learning.
Continue to visit the engage2learn.org website and estudio. Engage is continually adding new resources and updates. They have added some great resources connecting this learning model with TTESS and best practices.
McKinney ISD ELM Google Site
MISD Google site is available for staff to access. There are pictures, videos, and resources available. We are also in the process of collecting videos of MISD teachers facilitating Social Studies and Science using the ELM model. We will be linking those to the Google site as well for teachers to use as professional learning opportunities. There is also a place for you or your teachers to Blog and add videos and pictures of what is happening at your campus. Please share this link with your teachers.
Remember to tweet all the wonderful learning on your campus at #mckelm.
ELM Summer Professional Learning
ELM Summer Two Day Training-June 6 & 7 or July 18 & 19
The initial ELM Three Day Training has been redesigned to a Two Day Training. Please consider creating a team of 3-4 teachers/staff from your campus to attend one of the ELM Two Day Trainings. This is a great opportunity to gather new resources and ideas to bring back to your campus. Also, it will be an opportunity for those teachers who would like a refresher, now that they have implemented at least one year, to gain more learning. If you have any teachers who did not attend the initial Three Day ELM training for some reason (new during the year, late hire, change in subject/grade level, etc.) please feel free to have them attend one of these trainings as well. We encourage all Instructional Coaches to attend one of these trainings, either for the first time or as a refresher to support their learning as they continue to support ELM design and facilitation on your campus. You, as an ELM Leader, are always welcome to attend any of the trainings.
Converge Conference-June 21-23
Please let your staff know the Converge conference includes ELM workshops this year. Last year we held a separate ELM Summit in July. However, this year we have ‘merged’ the ELM Summit with Converge. Amber Jones sent an e-mail out to you a few weeks ago with a link for teachers to submit proposals to present ELM workshops during this conference. Please encourage your teachers to submit proposals and/or attend Converge and sign up for a workshop. If they have any questions, please have them e-mail us and we will be glad to meet with them. We have already had several teachers submit proposals. It is going to be an impactful and valuable opportunity for learning!
Suggestions for end of year ELM reflections:
Guide teachers to reflect on their ELM journey throughout the year.
- Where did I start, where am I know, where do I want to grow next? What support do I need to go to the next level?
- Where did my student begin in their soft skill and/or content knowledge? Where are my students now? What do I hope for my next year’s students?
- What do I want to do the same next year in ELM? What do I want to change?
- How has our grade level grown as a design team this year? What have we learned, done well, not so well? Where do we want to grow from here?
- What are my professional goals?
- What can I do this summer to grow professionally?
