Transcendentalism
Is an idealistic philosophical and social movement that developed in New England around 1836 in reaction to rationalism.
Edgar Allen Poe
He wrote stories such as: The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart,The Fall Of The House Of Usher and The Cask Of Amontillado. His creative talents led t the beginning of different literary genres, earning him the nickname "Father Of The Detective Story."Among other distinctions.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
He wrote: "Self-Reliance"," Nature", "The Conduct Of Life", "Good-Bye" and "The American Scholar. He became known as a central figure for his literary and philosophical group "The American Transcendentalists." He encouraged american authors to find their own style of writing instead of imitating their foreign predecessors.
Noah Webster
He wrote: "The American Spelling Book" and "The New England Primer." He saw a need for american english textbooks;he was passionate about grammar and spelling, he went on to later write the famous "Blue-Backed Speller" and later an American dictionary of the english language.
Utopian Movement
the utopian movement is where people wanted to be in a socially perfect group away from outside laws so they could make their own laws. The biggest idea to come out of this movement id that they wanted to have the perfect society where they can rule themselves and not listen to anyone else.
Brook Farm Community
Was a New England utopian community founded by unitarian minister George Ripley and other progressive, transcendentalist Unitarians. Ripley wanted it to be the new jerusalem.
