Tiger Nation Newsletter

Weekly Report for August 18, 2023

Tiger Nation:

The 4.5 week grading period is right around the corner. Please take some time to discuss with your child how they are doing in each of their classes. Getting off to a good start is critical to their success.

Fall sports are in full swing at GHS. Please come out and support our student athletes. The Varsity Football team hosts Mountain View Marana HS on Friday, August 25th with kick-off at 7 pm.

Attendance Matters

School attendance is not only a good habit, state law requires it. Arizona State Law (15-802.E, 15-803.) requires every person who has custody of a child between the ages of six and sixteen years shall make sure the child attends school for the full time school is in session unless unable to attend due to illness or another legitimate reason.

Please remind your students to bring and wear their ID badge to school every day. Spending time at the Bookstore to receive a temporary or replacement ID badge takes away from student learning/class time.

Gilbert High School has adopted a ``No Cell, Bell to Bell” expectation in all classes for the 2023-24 school year. In an effort to keep the focus on instruction and learning, students will not have access to their cell phones during class time. Students will continue to have access to their cell phones before school, during passing periods, at lunch and after school.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support of Gilbert High School!

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian Selection

To give all students an equal opportunity to become their school's valedictorian or salutatorian, Gilbert Public Schools will use the following guidelines:

  • Class rank will be used to determine the Valedictorian/Salutatorian distinction. In addition, recognition will be made for students who are in the top 1% of their class. Weighted classes will be included when determining class rank and will be identified on a student's transcript.
  • Foreign exchange students will not be eligible for the valedictorian or salutatorian position.
  • Mid-year graduates will not be eligible for the valedictorian or salutatorian position.
  • The valedictorian and salutatorian must have taken a minimum of twelve and one-half (12.5) credits (25 semester courses) at the high school from which they are graduating and must be enrolled in a minimum of five (5) class periods (full time status) per semester.
