UMAC News- October 30
Hello UMAC Families,
A special thank you to our Halloween celebration coordinator, Mrs. Howard, for planning a super spooky Halloween party. Also, thank you to those parents that helped provide treats for the party. The kids looked awesome in their costumes!
We had a fabulous time on Monday at Prairieview Educational Center. Hopefully you enjoyed the pictures that were uploaded to the Homeroom App and were able to learn about some of the Native American culture with us! The students were able to make tons of connections to our shared reading books and history chapter. We all decided the Native Americans were extremely resourceful and very hard workers.Have a wonderful and safe weekend,
Michelle Barrett
Special Veteran's Day Assembly on November 11!
Shared Reading
Our shared reading text, titled Off & Running written by Gary Soto, provided our team with opportunities to compare and contrast different characters and viewpoints. The students did an amazing job analyzing idioms to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions between the characters. From the discussions and text, we then ended the week using a venn diagram to identify similarities and differences of the main characters Miata and Rudy.

Here is a book preview link: Book fair video clipBottled Water vs. Tap Water
This week in writing, students watched a variety of short clips to analyze a the author’s craft. Using the topic: Bottled Water vs. Tap Water, students watched three video clips and studied the tone, mood, point of view, and supporting evidence. On Friday, students had to form and defend their own opinion on if bottled water should be banned from schools. Our team definitely shared their perspective with strong emotion and factual information!
