Summer Update #1 - July 2020
While we don't really know what is coming, I know one thing for sure - I want YOU walking with me. You jump in the deep end without floaties, you attack without formal training, and you overcome better than you started. Think about the knowledge and mastery of technology we all have gained. We Zoom and Seesaw and Canvas like experts and the reality is that Zoom was a television show we used to watch, SeeSaw was our favorite piece of equipment on the playground, and Canvas is a material used to make tents.
So, "what's next?" Well, we still don't know and until we do, we must stay focused on what we do know:
*August is coming!
*We must be prepared for educating students. (whatever that will look like)
*Relationships with our students are still the most important part of our job.
*Social/emotional needs of all must come first. We can't educate students who don't feel safe.
*We need each other to survive!
*It's okay to not be okay all the time.
Let's look forward with excitement and caution at the same time. Whatever the future looks like, we need to know that we must work together and we must make a difference in the lives of those whom we teach next year.

Insurance enrollment opens on July 1. You have until July 31 to get it completed, but it is better to get it done sooner than later. Please plan to have it done by the third week in July. You have to log in and make updates EVEN IF you don't get CISD insurance. Beginning the 4th week in July, we need to start calling employees every day. We don't want anyone to miss the opportunity to enroll. You should have received insurance information via the mail. If not, you can get more information at this link: https://www.conroeisd.net/department/hr/benefits/
Returning employees must enroll by July 31. New CISD employees have 31 days from their hire date to enroll. Remember, ALL EMPLOYEES MUST LOG IN AND MAKE THEIR ELECTIONS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU USE CISD INSURANCE. Below is the link to enroll. You log in using your Employee ID number. Your PIN is the last four digits of your SSN, followed by the last two digits of your birth year.
Professional Learning Framework
It is recommended that you look through the sessions that are listed under Year 1-3 Requirements. That is where you will find the Technology sessions, along with every other area! You must be logged into your SSO to get in. I'm not sure if this link will work, but this is the direct link. On the SSO, it is under the District Quick Links tab, and it is at the very bottom. C&I has done an amazing job with online learning, and this is just another example of how great our district is!!
Distance Learning Thinking...
With COVID looming over us, there is always potential of us going to distance learning at some point throughout the year. With that said, as a staff, we must be ready to make that happen. TEA has released their expectations for online learning and bottom line, the expectation is that online learning will be just a rigorous with the same activities as if were doing face to face learning. Attendance will be taken daily and students will be required to participate daily in order to be counted for our ADA - had to do with school finance. While you have time this summer, think about and maybe start preparing by:
A. video tape an overview of each unit you will be teaching or share that responsibility with your team.
B. videotape yourself teaching some mini-lessons
C. put together step by step instruction for your parents on how to access online learning - SeeSaw or Canvas (see below)
It is advisable and recommended that you look at training listed above specifically for SeeSaw and Canvas. With COVID causing the potential for remote learning throughout the year, we need to be prepared at any moment to adjust to online learning. It is the district expectation that we use SeeSaw for K-2 students and Canvas for 3rd and up. Better to be prepared than caught off guard.
Returning to work...
Just a reminder that as of today, we will be returning to work in August. See schedule below keeping in mind that we are still working to develop the staff development plan for our return.
August 3 - New teacher on campus - meet with mentor, work in classrooms
August 4 - Staff trade day for all who have completed their Safe Schools videos
August 5 - Teachers return to school
August 6 - 1/2 day district via distance learning (from classroom), 1/2 day campus
August 7 - All staff return
August 10 - Staff development
August 11 - Staff work day
August 12 - First day of school
Free Covid Testing for CISD Employees at Lone Star Clinic
COVID-19 screening and testing is available to CISD employees at the Lone Star Family Health Center at the Conroe location. You will need to show proof of employment with your ID Badge. You MUST have symptoms to get tested. Asymptomatic people can NOT be tested at this location at this time. Please see the flyer below for more information.

- Saturday: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
